First Aid Kit?
July 19, 2005 | self / vanity

Posted on 07/19/2005 7:30:59 PM PDT by The Other Harry

Last afternoon I fell off a stool while trying to remove a light fixture. It was no big deal -- no harm done, but a fair amount of blood which splattered all over the house. It took me about an hour to get it cleaned up. The dog helped.

The main problem was that I had no single organized first-aid kit, so I had to hunt around for things. I want to cure that. I want at least one for the house and one for the car.

The question this time is: what should go into a first-aid kit? Band-aids are obvious, but I’m sure there are other things. Towels, for instance.

What else?

You can buy them already assembled.

This seems an odd question for someone who was recently involved in EMT training. I don't think I can help you.

According to your bio, I can see why you "blew out of EMT training last year".

Don't forget a bottle of whiskey and a flare gun.

There are commercial first-aid kits, already assembled and not too expensive. (Bandages of many sizes, gauze, adhesive tape, w/small scissors, bacitracin ointment, burn spray, scrubbing disinfectant, painkiller like aspirin etc.)- more or less standard set. You might consider the most likely emergencies you might face, and enhance the standard kit appropriately. For example, if you plan on falling from the tall ladder, a couple of tourniquets might be a good addition.

We had different tools in EMT training. Not what you would have at home.

The whiskey was covered. I hadn't thought about the flare gun. ;)

"The dog helped?"

Geez, I don't think I wanna know HOW he helped.....

I hope you at least hozed him off when he was through.

And as far as getting first aid supplies... why not get more dogs (helpful ones that is)

-------

Damn, .... just how TALL was that stool ???

As for items, ....

1) Bubble Wrap. ( wrap yourself in it. )

2) Have a Ambulance on stand-by.

3) Put (biohazard) Cleaning Crew on speed dial. ...... /;-)

He licked blood off both me and the couch.

With his dog-nose, he can find things which I would have missed. He would not give up.

A foldable shovel, a bag of lime, and lots of pot-pouri.  Although I generally use my first aid kit on other people.
