Bush's SCOTUS Pick: The Last Betrayal?

Posted on 07/19/2005 11:02:47 AM PDT by faithincowboys

If as it appears Bush will nominate a moderate named Edith Clement to the Court, will the Right bolt from the GOP in next years midterms? Bush, someone I have been a big fan of, is turning out to be a heck of a disappoinment. He hasn't controlled the borders and apparently only used the promise to appoint "strict constructionists" as a cynical ploy to get re-elected. Bush, like his father before him, is proving to be a huge demoralizer for the Right.

admit it, if the reports are true, this is a massive cave in a long series of caves to the Left.

"We'll soon find out for sure whether or not we got duped by all those folks who said choose GWB for conservative justices, and put up with his socialist domestic agenda and anti-nationalist immigration policy."

Yea, like we had other viable choices that were going to appoint more conservative justices than Bush will.

Yea, we were all duped for not voting for that great constitutional scolar John Kerry.

Bush has been absolutely horrible on illegal immigration.

He's been pretty good on other defense issues, though he has his failings.

He has a mixed record on gun rights.

He's refused to stand up to Congress and he's refused to confront the liberal media.

He's still by far the better of the two viable choices we had in the last presidential election, and from what I saw of the third party candidates I wasn't impressed that they were competent to be President either.

Not at all, that was what you would call a "JOKE" after the statement that I didn't know anything about her.

Lockstep republicans will back any scrap of meat thrown them by Bush.

"All in all, Bush sold out."

You haven't even heard the Nominee yet. Pathetic.

A more *conservative* approach would be to listen to tonight's announcement.

Believe me, she is not going to shift the court. The Bush's despite all the rhetoric and promises, are timid New Englanders , playing like they are outnumbered by liberals, to their core.

So if it's her, are all my concerns and conclusions valid?

Let me simplify what you just said:

"Why isn't Bush just like me? Why doesn't he agree with every one of my priorities and ideas? Why doesn't he follow every single part of my armchair quarterbacking?"

But she very pointedly did distinguish between her opinion and the supremes' opinions during the nomination process. To me that's a signal of a great mind at work.

Maybe to get appointed to the Court. But the justice's oath is to uphold the Constitution, not decisions of the Supreme Court.

If, if, if...

Methinks panic sets in too easily for some.

You don't know her record, you don't know if she's the nominee...yet you are playing Chicken Little as if the sky was already falling.

Pathetic.

Buck up! Act like a man. Shots haven't even been fired and you're already fleeing the line.

Going to War to put Hussein in jail, move the Taliban out of power, and put Al Qaeda on the run was...timid?!

And the "unappeasables" will always find some reason to b**ch about anything, even if it means ignoring facts and reality.

From what I know about her, she's an excellent pick. And if the left can't help itself and decides to try to Bork her, it's an even better pick.

So he's better than a John Kerry, a notorious traitor and wrong-headed Leftist, and that's enough for you? Wow!!! Face it, we gave him, in the elections of 2004, all the help he needed to do what he said he'd do and he ain't doing it because he doesn't have the stomach and/or was never for us to begin with. Was it all hollow pandering?

Oh come on, admit it...there isn't a nominee outside of Judge Roy Moore whom you wouldn't whine about, right?!

At least we don't get Justice Howard Stern! Actually, I might have preferred something more like this:
