Thursday, April 7, 2005

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

Tussel/Tussel

Verb/noun:
Pronunciation: tus/el
Etymology: I don’t know.

1) (verb) To struggle, especially roughly or violently: scuffle. Syn: wrestle

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!

Did you finish Velocity yet? (Silly, of course you've finished it by now.) Did you find it disturbing at all with the somewhat duplicitous nature of the protaganist? I was gratified by Koontz's not-so-subtle dig at the difnified-death crowd and their desire to euthanize those in comas, etc.

Good versus evil is always a tussle, SG. Then there are the grey areas.

A++++ for you!

oh i don't see the kids buying the books themselves, i see parents thinking, hey there's that popular children's book, i will get it for my kid. and so bring it home to read. i have to say that i still maintain that it is very rare for parents to sit down and discuss good and evil in any manifestation with their children. people are by and large clueless, they have no idea what kind of music their kids are listening to, what tv shows or movies they are seeing and what sort of ideas/misapprehensions it is giving them. Parents by and large DO NOT form their children's character. they go about living their own lives, working, getting ahead, going on vacations etc. But they have NO IDEA what they think their kids think is proper or right or good. i would stake my life on it.

I've spent time listening to it and have formed a pretty strong opinion. Especially when you consider that one year the NBA playoff theme song was Let's Get it Started and it was originally written as Let's Get Retarded.

I don't think it was Koontz' best book. I'm still awaiting the second book of the Frankenstein series. I thought Frankenstein was way a "head" of itself. LOL!

I don't think we are the only parents who spend time molding our kids into better versions with good moral teaching.

Vast, you are begging for a spanking. And I don't even practice corporal punishment!

Yes, I'm looking forward to Frankenstein 2 myself. I agree Velocity wasn't among Koontz's best work. His heroes are often flawed, but this one was a little further around the bend than usual.

I think I practice corporal punishment. When my nephew hit a girl his age to get ahead in line, I whacked him on the butt so hard his eyes were blurred with tears.

If you don't practice, how do you expect to get it right?

Whilst attending Catholic school, there was what was called "The Board Of Education." It was a paddle with holes in it to make it sting just a tad bit more. Now, I was really good at doing things that didn't get me in trouble, but my brothers were different. They got The Board of Education quite a few times.

I don't need to practice it. I have delegated it. See? I could be in management!

Our nuns used rulers and books to hit children. They really did. And they were called the Sisters of Charity.

You can give that job opportunity to me. LOL!

What did Vastie do wrong, so at least I can tell him when I put him over my knee.
