THIS THREAD IS INTENDED FOR READERS THAT HAVE COMPLETED THE BOOK! If you have not yet read the book, consider yourself warned: There will be spoilers on this thread.
For my fellow FReepers who have no intention of reading the book but would like to discuss the more controversial issues related to the work, I am asking you as politely as I can: DO NOT HIJACK THIS THREAD. We are all members of this forum and as such, it is not up to me to disallow anyone from participating in the discussion. That is why I am asking you--please do not hijack this thread. If you would like to discuss the more controversial aspects of the book, maybe you could start your own thread and ping us over there. If we are interested, we'll come.
Remember when they were looking for Nicholas Flamel? He was hard to find in the library books Hermione was perusing.
I saw in an interview, JKRowling said that Regulus was a "good" guess, and laughed at the question, I think it must be him.
Actually, we do. In Order, when they are looking at the tapestry, it is mentioned that Regulus' entry shows a date of death "some fifteen years previously" or words to that effect. Since Harry is, I think, fifteen in Order, that would mean Regulus died around the same time as Harry's parents, when he was a year old. Interesting coincidence, isn't it?
Good point, but I don't think Quirrell is the horcrux. He was being used, like Ginny was as well, but that doesn't make him the horcrux. I just can't buy the whole idea of Harry's scar as the horcrux. Plus, every time I read about "Harry is the horcrux" I think of "Horton Hears a Who" or whatever that Dr. Seuss book is called.
Well, if there's one thing you can say about Jo Rowling's books is that there is almost NEVER a coincidence. Everything she puts in those books is there for a reason.
But they do like Harry Potter. ;-)
Bump, Just to keep this thread on the top of my comments page.
that is a strange coincedence that the time of death was about the same time that harry's parents were murdered and something tells me that those 2 event are linked in some way
Now, a favor: If someone has a copy of OOTP (mine is on loan, drat) could you post the two or three sentences from the book in which the locket was mentioned? It was mentioned in the chapter with all of the housecleaning. Thanks in advance!
They found an unpleasant-looking silver instrument, something like a many legged pair of tweezers, which scuttled up Harry's arm like a spider when he picked ti up, and attempted to puncture his skin. Sirus seized it and smashed it with a heavy book Nature's Nobility: A Wizarding Genealogy. There was a musical box that emitted a faintly sinister tune when wound, and they all found themselves becoming curiously weak and sleep until Ginny had the sense to slam the lid shut; also a heavy locket that none of them could open, a number of ancient seals, and in a dusty box, an Order of Merlin, First Class that had been awarded to Siruius' father for "Services to the Ministry."
It means he gave them a load of gold," and Sirius contemplated thrrowing the medal into the rubbish sack.
Several times, Kreacher sidled into the room and attempted to smuggle things away under his loincloth, muttering horrible curses every time they caught him at it.
A million thanks!
excuse me while I bump
hmmmm..........
Another bump!
Just checking the posts and keeping it active on my ping page.....
I finally finished the book last night. I read every evening for about an hour. I wanted to savor this one, but once I hit the last few chapters I couldn't slow down. Now I can finally go back and read through this thread!
So, when are you going to start your re-read? ;-)
need to kep this at the top.
The thread's slowing down I see.
Tonight!! It's like trying to slowly savor a gooey chocolate dessert. I just can't do it. It's going to drive me nuts to wait for the next book. I should have read all of them over again before starting this one. I've forgotten so much, but luckliy this thread has refreshed my memory. =)
