THIS THREAD IS INTENDED FOR READERS THAT HAVE COMPLETED THE BOOK! If you have not yet read the book, consider yourself warned: There will be spoilers on this thread.
For my fellow FReepers who have no intention of reading the book but would like to discuss the more controversial issues related to the work, I am asking you as politely as I can: DO NOT HIJACK THIS THREAD. We are all members of this forum and as such, it is not up to me to disallow anyone from participating in the discussion. That is why I am asking you--please do not hijack this thread. If you would like to discuss the more controversial aspects of the book, maybe you could start your own thread and ping us over there. If we are interested, we'll come.
As I said in an earlier post...
Dumbeldore's complete trust in Snape, and the
REASON for that trust, threw me for a loop.
How could Dumbledore be wrong...our foremost
wizard...He-who-sees-all and gathers memories
to review through his pensieve?
IN the next book:
Will Harry reunite with his mentor via the Erised mirror?
Will Lucius Malfoy be released from Azkaban and reunite
with his wife and Draco?
Who will be the NEXT Dark Arts teacher?
Has Harry really given up his goal of becoming an Auror?
How is Harry going to find the remaining 4 Horcruxes?
Is Malfoy One of THEM? Why has he turned so sickly?
And what's the real secret element of that necklace?!!!
Will those two channeling cabinets be destroyed or
used again?
At the end of the "Chamber of Secrets" Harry vowed to
Lucius that HE would always be at Dumbledore's side
in protecting Hogwartz. Will Harry return to the
school as a student...or?
And let's not forget about the minor characters:
Innocent Stan Shunpike being held as a follower
of Lord Voldemort?
Rosmerta an accomplice in the scheme to get the
necklace inside Hogwartz...and poison the wine
intended for Dumbledore?
Were Dumbledore and Hermione wrong in thinking the
Divination powers of Prof. Trelawaney were quaackery?
These questions (and many more) HAVE To be answered.
Which leads me to wonder if Rawlings can possibly END
the epic with only one more volume of 600+ pages!
WEll, let's READ some of your
tons of questions! I've posted some of mine!
RAB is Regulus Black, Sirius's brother. He had been a Death Eater but became frightened with their activities and was murdered, but apparently he saw it coming and made a play for the locket. Rowling has not come right out and confirmed Regulus but when pressed about it, she seemed to indicate that he is the one.
My kids are having a "slumber party" downstairs right now. We just watched The Incredibles, great movie. I've gotta fix them a sleeping draught right quick or they'll never close their eyes!
Don't be too sure the phoenix has disappeared!
Like Buckbeak, Faux developed an affinity for
Harry, too.
The blooper that stood out for me was in chapter 3,
page 38...."The misty 'fug' his breath had left on
the window...." <>g<>
Also, more than a few people were hiding things
in the Room of Requirement! Only Rawlings knows
if this Room will come into use again!
Re the unknown horcruxes:
We probably haven't been clued in about what types of articles will be associated with the original founders
of Hogwartz. Yes, we know about the Gryffendor sword.
But there may be other items as well. OTOH, what about
that sword? Just because it's hanging on the wall with
all the portraits and the Sorting Hat doesn't mean that
it must be free of any "contamination." Look what
Tom Riddle (Lord Voldemort) used to house a part of
his soul...a diary of his own making...the contents of which Harry destroyed with that sword (the diary
remained just a book). Was the diary a horcrux?
Doubledore worked it out that there were 7 horcruxes.
It would seem that R.A.B. already absconded with the
contents of the necklace. The interesting question is
how will Lord Voldemort respond to that message? And
how is Harry going to use that information, which HE
ALONE has now that Dumbledore is gone.
One question re Draco. Do you see him returning
to Hogwartz next year? Harry has announced he
won't be coming back. But that could change.
Is Draco now "of age" too? Without Snape and
Draco, how are the Slytherins going to function?
They can't be the same with Prof. Slughorn as their
House Master.
Are the Quidditch matches between the Houses
finished?
Someone a few comments back mentioned that perhaps DD sacrificed himself to add to Harry's protection he received from his mother. Could it be that he was actually imparting that sort of protection upon Draco?
Here's why I think Draco will be redeemed: The Sorting Hat has been stressing that unity is the only way they can win - I believe Draco and Harry will have to find some common ground so they can work together to defeat Voldemort.
I recall reading an interview with Ms. Rowling in which she indicated she was getting tired of writing Quidditch games and there likely wouldn't be any more.
BTW, does anyone have any useful information on how to get goodies from Ms. Rowling's web site? Numbers for the "cell phone", locations of hidden objects, etc.?
I caught that yesterday on the train riding home. It took my third reading to do it, though. I guess I was so excited to have the book that my brain was "fugged" the first two times!
Ghost in the machine!!! Speaking of ghosts and other spectrals, someone mentioned something within the last hundred posts, I need to look it up...hang in there...
AHA! The name you mention, Peverell, has been at the back of my mind...now I am wondering if "Peeves" is a nickname of sorts.
I'm glad I made myself go back through the thread and read more carefully. That's a GREAT theory you have, supercat, about DD having left a memory! I'd never thought of that.
My son just finished reading the book, now we're going to have a looong discussion!
Interesting. Especially since DD tried so hard at
the end to "salvage" Draco.
I also like that idea of DD leaving a memory or two
his own for Harry to "view" via the pensieve.
Darn, I really liked the idea that Peeves was once named Peverell, and was somehow linked to the ring.
"Peeves isn't a ghost; he was never a living person. He is an indestructible spirit of chaos, and solid enough to unscrew chandeliers, throw walking sticks and, yes, chew gum." -- J.K. Rowling (JKR)
Professor Snape IS Regulus Black
Whaddya know, I've forgotten the other one!!!
I can't remember offhand and I've lent out OOTP...is Bellatrix a sister or a cousin of Sirius Black? Did Sirius have any siblings besides Regulus?
