This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Fingers crossed on a good home for Rusty, and the pad working out...
Looking for pics!
HEH, I posted that last post to you because I was going to tell you (and forgot) she has a real nice paint mare over there that a boarder is selling. I took some picutures of her, but none of them do justice to this mares head, she had a beautiful head. I like her markings too, not real loud, like Tuffy, but still nice. Debbie said her breeding is real good, the horse is broke to walk, trot, lope, but hasn't been trained in anything specific. The owner is asking $2500, which "if" she is as good as said would be a pretty fair price.
I told Debbie I'd pass on that info to anyone who might be interested. I'll post the pictures as soon as they are done loading, but they're not that good. Hard to take pictures of horses wondering around in a run.
Becky
Anybody get the travel channel? I'm watching a special called "New Zealand: Movie Paradise" and they are currently showing the horses that were used in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
You live in Waco? We're practically neighbors. :)
My daughter is interested in Baylor as her college choice.
I was trying to get her head, but the pictures do not show how pretty her head is. It was one of the prettiest ones I've seen.
Here is Rusty walking thru the barn:). He wasn't sure of it:) But never jumped or spooked, just walked thru looking.
Her round pen.
Her indoor arena.
On the other side of the round pen is another bigger arena, that is Rusty in the corner.
Becky
Thanks. I hope the pad works out too.
I'm not going to get excited about buyers again till I have a check in my hand:). Actually Debbie said she may even buy him. I knew she would like him when she saw him, I know what she likes:). She liked Harley too, but he's not for sale:)
Becky
The place is beautiful, like you said it was. :~D
Becky
Heh - uncooperative horses!
I bet that half-Friesian has all kinds of presence when he's in motion, even if he didn't impress you standing around. They are beautiful movers.
A little too much blue tho:), don't you think?
This really isn't even half of it. The place is always landscaped, mowed, and perfect, Out front she has one of those big plastic statues of a horse, Arab, She has a 2, 3, and 7 horse slant trailers. She is the one that does a lot of hauling of horses for people.
The barn has like 10 stalls, and they all have their own runs, you can see them in the pictures I took of the horses. Then she has alot of seperate paddocks that all have blue loafing sheds.
Rusty is going think he died and went to heaven:)
Becky
Oh I know. I've seen them in shows before. I think this one is just at that gawky stage.
She hasn't started riding him yet, just put a saddle on him. He is already 15.3 and only 2
Becky
It's OK if you like blue :~D
It kindof makes the round pen look like a swimming pool.... not sure I would have painted that blue :~D
You're right, you can't really tell anything about the mare's head, but her color is pretty. I've just about decided that the only way to get a good head shot of a horse is to either tie them to something or get somebody to hold them, then get somebody else to stand just out of camera range and do goofy stuff so they'll perk up their ears. The whole time I was trying to take pictures of my crew I had them tied to the back of the trailer and was throwing my hat, my jacket, or anything else I could get my hands on out in front of them to make them look. It's about as aggravating as trying to get a dog to look at something. They usually just look at your hand. The thing I had the best luck with was throwing a feed sack with just a little grain in the bottom. They'd perk up pretty good for that. Goofy horses!
Your friend sure has a nice place. I like the way her round pens slant outward from bottom to top so you don't hang a toe in them as you're going around. Her barns are nice too. I liked the picture of Rusty checking it out. He may not have spooked, but he had that feet-planted-wide-apart stance in the back that says "I'm ready to boogy if anything jumps out at me." ;o)
He'll be huge..... I'd like that cross I think. I think I might like to get me one of them :~D
LOL,,, a swimming pool. I never thought of that but it's the truth.
It's a neat round pen, it has sand in the bottom. and the sides a slanty to keep your knees from bangin. She told me a few years ago she is going to eventually cover it too. Guess she hasn't gotten around to it yet.
Becky
It is true. We do have a cold gene. My husband is always talking about how I won't drink cold drinks. I have to let them warm up first. I've seen other family members put them in the window to warm up. I guess it's a good thing we live in the south.
LOL...yeah Rusty looked funny walking thru that barn. He was kind of squatted down and snaking back and forth:).
Becky
Funny about that mare. While we were standing out by the trailer talking about my horses, Debbie said something about that mare being for sale and her head being just beautiful. When i went into the pen to take her picture I wasn't really paying attention to details, till Jenny said something about Wow, her head is pretty. So I got to looking her and she really was. She's the only mare I've ever seen that has those big round jaws like a stud. Her head was real small and just very very nice.
Becky
LOL!! And just how do you think you're gonna haul your old bones up on one that tall?! You'll have to have mounting block the size of a Buick! ;o)
But think of the view once I could get up there :~D
