This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Ya Hoo!
The thing is pretty darned big. If you live east of the Mississippi, you're more or less getting something from it.
Good grief Rose.... prayers for you and your critters too.
It was still classified as a Tropical Storm all the way into Tennessee, about mid-morning. It may have degraded into a Tropical Depression by now, but I'm not sure.
I've seen lots of dogs on 3 legs, they don't seem to notice that they are handicapped. I probably would keep a very close on him if kids are around, just to be on the safe side.
You ok, Sharn?
Very close EYE on him.
Damn, I thought I previewed that better.
yeah we are ok. Got a bit hair raising a little while ago, we all ended up in the bathroom with no windows. Chairs on back porch and rocker on front porch were blown off, a very heavy hand made bench about 80+ lb was blown over, one of the 10x10 dog runs, up ended, Thankfully I had all the puppies inside the house : )
A few tree branches down as far as I know, but nothing major. I am on satelite internet so with storms, I lose reception. I think the worst is over now. We have sunshine again. Isn't is amazing how something quite far away can cause this spin off tornados two states away!
Did y'all see the video clip that was making the rounds a while back about a 2 legged dog. Come to think of it, I've seen two different ones.
One had lost a front and back leg on the same side and seemed to get around just fine. It was a grayhound-looking dog and it was fast as all getout. It was really cool how it leaned over and balanced on 2 legs on the same side.
The other one was born with no front legs and had learned to walk upright. It was really weird looking to watch it walk, but it seemed to do ok. I don't know how it handled eating and going to the bathroom, but it seemed to be happy enough. It ran around with a couple of little girls in the back yard. So I guess quality of life is in the eye of the beholder.
The rain bands from the darned thing extend basically from Florida to Maine. It's pretty awsome!
I'm glad to hear it's calmed down a little bit for ya. I'm a nervous wreck when bad storms are around. I've always said that whenever we build a house, it's gonna have a storm shelter of some kind inside it, whether in the basement or a concrete storm room above ground.
I'm glad you and yours are safe.... I hope it's over for you now.
I'm depressed not only from watching the footage, but by listening to FReepers argue with each other about every aspect of it. I figure I could begin arguing right along with them, or I could go for a ride in the woods and thank my lucky stars. I'm choosing the latter.
Yeah, it's been pretty calm here for a while. If you look in the upper left hand corner of Alabama, you'll see a little eyebrow-looking thing, that's the Tennessee River, and I'm right in the curve of that.
good! : ) We have beautiful sunshine again, so I am heading out to clear up some stuff.
When I lived in Alabama we had a two story split level house. The front porch ran the length of the house, 12' wide and 4' high. It looked like a solid porch, concrete and brick but it was hollow - you could access it from the back of the closet under the steps in the first story of the house. Very well hidden but perfect for sitting out bad storms (or hiding an army I guess if you were so inclined)
Um what about black widow spiders, brown recluse spiders, mice or snakes? I'd be too afraid to go under a porch! : )
It's been pouring here for two days straight. It's let up a little, but it's supposed to pour tomorrow too. No wind, just a small breeze, but if it rains anymore, I'm gonna have to start building a boat! We have flash flood warnings and everything.
