This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I still have the TV on. This all sounds so bad. I'm hoping it's just the news people being dramatic,,,but I don't think so.

Glad to hear that you guys are ok. Believe it or not we're getting the edges of Katrina even up here, and it's downpouring like no tomorrow. Has been since yesterday. We're supposed to get rain and t-storms until Thursday.
Yeah, I go in at 7:45. It's not really even raining here anymore, just gusty. They closed some of the schools, but some of them are just opening late, like at 10, so I don't know what the deal is.
Yeah, I was watching GMA this morning before I went to work and some of those news people must just have sh!t for brains. They're outside in downtown New Orleans or Biloxi or wherever else normal people wouldn't be, standing (or trying to) in 150 mph winds with crap blowing all over the place. It's like they're trying to see who can be the stupidest. And I don't know which is worse, the reporters, or the people who thought they could ride it out. I heard them talking about all kinds of people who had to take to their attics because of the rising water and were lucky to get out alive because they were trapped in there. They're saying that the storm surge was higher than with Ivan and that the damage estimates are worse than Camile. There's people staying in hotels all the way up here who have come from down there and the EMA is telling them not to go back for at least a week, maybe longer if they live in New Orleans. I feel so sorry for them.
Glad to hear you're OK this morning!
I agree with everything you just wrote. If I was in a situation, where I had no transportation, I'd have grabbed a couple of backpacks and either cycled/walked, done whatever I could have to get me and the kids to safety.
It's amazing how far you can walk when you have to!
The smallest child and some essentials could always be pulled in a wagon or pushed in a shopping cart, or on horse back : ) if needs must. I would not wait around for nothing. I'd have called on a church out of the danger for hope of shelter if I didnt have the money to pay for hotels etc.
It didn't even occur to me that there might be alligators in the floodwaters.
Alligators, snakes and you don't even wanna think about what else.
Well, I've thought about the 'what else', and probably even snakes... but I hadn't thought about alligators! ~shudder~
Relieved to hear you guys are okay.
The snake and alligator part alone would be enough to give me energy to high tail it out of there!
Not yet, but soon, very very soon. It has been raining here all day today. The big stuff should hit this evening.
Hopefully y'all won't get anything worse out of it than we did. We were really lucky.
Thank goodness for that! We are having tornado problems around here. At the moment we just have very high winds, trash cans over, hot tub lid tore off, slide has been lifted and moved, roof on barn is coming off, very wet.
We have drilled the kids as to what to do if a tornado gets close.
I feel so helpless though when I see what devestation so many are having to face in MI and New Orleans.
That's good news.Glad yall are ok. What a mess, huh?
I can't believe the wide spread effect. I would have thought you 2 were out of it.
What did you think about my moms dog? I was torn between thinking he was the sweetest and luckiest dog to the vet should have put him to sleep. He gets around fine on his 3 legs and he's happy. I just don't know if he could turn vicious.
His Name is Cowboy
