The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

She decided on an Olympus Stylus 500. We got it from buydig.com for $251. That's $80 less than Circuit City which was the local place that had the best in store price. It was a better deal than the other reputable online places, too. If she'd chosen two weeks ago, we could have gotten free shipping, but we needed to get it here pretty quickly so we opted for the 3 day shipping which was still only about $8. We went halfsies with her on the cost of the camera and accessories, since it will last her for several years.

It's a vey nice camera. It's a 5 megapixel with a 3X Zoom, and some nifty scene modes. She liked the idea that you could make a movie for as long as the memory card would hold out. The camera came with a 32Mb card, but we ordered a 256 for her, and she's gonna get another 256 tomorrow locally. She doesn't want to run out of memory space while we're out and about. We got a second battery for the same reason. The camera doesn't have an optical viewfinder, just a HUGH 2.5" LCD screen, so the battery power is used a lot. She'll be able to charge both batteries each night when we get home so she'll have lots of power for the next day. She's also going to download all her pictures each day and send them to her home e-mail account so she'll have plenty of room on the memory cards as well.

Tell us if you run across any interesting foods.... :)

Clare has already decided that she's probably going to have to learn to like sushi. ;o) Our friends are vegans, but decided that they'd have to eat fish in Japan, so they are learning to like it. We love fish, so it will be fine for us. I don't mind sushi, and I learned to eat with chopsticks at a Japanese restauant in NYC when we went down there to see "Spamalot". It wasn't too terribly hard.

Sounds yummy!! And the coffee filter over the canning jar is a good idea!

I understand that sourdough bread is supposed to be glycemic-friendly (?) so I when I eat bread I try to eat that kind. I dont have any problems with my blood sugar, but I figure it can't hurt.

I've been out getting the outside stuff done.... cleaning off the porch and the barbecue, getting ready to mow.

I dusted off the old electric weed wacker, and man is it worthless. After using the gas one, I'll never go back to that wimpy thing! But I got the main stuff done I could reach with the cord.

How as Spamalot??!

I like sushi pretty well, as long as the fish is chemically cooked, or it is the california rolls with the avocado, cucumber, and carrot. I love the soft spring rolls in rice paper with peanut dip, but I think that is more Thai/Vietnamese than Japanese. Would love to buy the teeny tiny fish roe they sometimes put in/on the sushi.

mmmm....mocha...

I'm making my list of all I have to do tonight. Mrs. gets home around 1:00 a.m., so ~some~ things have to be back in order.

I've got to return/replace the shelves and the hardware and get them installed.

I also want to frame at least one piece of Luke's artwork to hang. I actually realized I have the perfect print that I need to get framed. It's the publicity poster from our college production of "Midsummer Night's Dream." We were both in it...although I was dating someone else at the time.

But, it's in the ~attic~ somewhere...

Lime is a good way to get rid of that troublesome physical evidence, you know.
