The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

My argument is that if they were teaching the kids correctly to begin with, they wouldn't need an extra month to prepare kids for the test.

Amen, sister!! They spend so much time these days on fluff stuff, (and I don't mean art and music) that they don't make the time for teaching the basics, which is all any of the standardized tests actually cover!

Before you knew what was going on, you were thinking about doing both groups, right? So maybe these ladies think the same thing, not knowing the whole story.

That's right...and some people are planning on joining both. And I suspect a lot don't know what to do yet.

But the former BA CHEF leaders, the ones I used to answer to and used to be moderators of the group...the ones that voted to split off from CHEF and are now the new support group leaders...are STILL members of the BA CHEF egroup.

It seems like bad manners to me...

I took away their moderator status already.

Did you ask them to specifically cancel their subscribership? I'm not sure, if I had been a part of an egroup, I would think to ask to be cancelled, I might either want to spy, OR, I might just stop going there and posting there but not think about my membership.

Let me ask you this though... any harm in their lurking? Are you really keeping a treasure trove of secrets in there? Or is it hindering the emotional venting that might occur? Is there venting and gossip and finger pointing happening?

What I would have you consider is, if you've just gotten yourself into an "us" versus "them" frame of mind that in the long run won't matter to you. If they asked to join both, would you stop them?

I'd give them the benefit of the doubt...it's only been a *very* short time, and it's quite likely it hasn't even occurred to 'em to sign off. I know I have my e-mail status for some lists set so I go to a website and read the messages, so it isn't like I have a constant bunch of mail reminding me I'm on the list.

Well, the rules of the egroup from the day it was started last year was that you had to be a member of BA CHEF to be a part. Had none of this ever happened, after the first meeting this year, the membership teamleader would have gone in and taken out anyone that didn't re-up with BA CHEF.

Now this has happened and the membership teamleader is one of the ones that voted to split off from BA CHEF!

And get this...the people who voted to split off are still posting in the egroup!! They have their own egroup, they aren't members of BA CHEF, so they technically shouldn't be there.

My concern is that it is inhibiting people from talking, knowing the people that caused the rift are still hanging around posting like nothing is wrong.

It won't stop me, however and when I have something to say, I'm gonna say it. Likely today I'll post a message asking the ladies to make sure and come to the BA CHEF meeting tomorrow night.

I'm also afraid that the new support group will try to post "their point of view" in the BA CHEF egroup...

I'm gonna change it to "messages must be approved by moderator" (me) for the time being.

That'll be a load off my mind right there.

Then do that. That meeting is tomorrow, right?

Interesting. Are they posting about the issue? or about other things? In other words, are they working PR for themselves and trying to explain, or are they posting on unrelated stuff?

It's unrelated stuff...it's ok, nothing bad...it's just the idea!

I think they ought to have better manners, but I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

After the meeting I will be removing a lot of people. I hate to do it, it's gonna break my heart.

I know... it'll be hard. But easier to do then, according to a very specific circumstance. Have you posted your intentions to remove all who don't re-up after tomorrow?

Are any of them going to show up at the meeting tomorrow you think?

What a headache! You'll figure out what to do, don't worry.

Some kids may not understand the lesson in the way the teacher is explaining it, but maybe mom or dad can explain it in a way that their kids can understand.

Might as well homeschool.

I still think you may be being too hard on them. Not all are going to understand the break-up as clearly as you do, and they may not completely grasp which egroups go with which.

I guess I'm probably being overly nice, but I'd still avoid making any hasty judgements until everything has been clarified for all members.

Be careful how you catch that falling star. Bad things can happen.

I need a new tagline. Applications are being considered.

I'd love to try homeschooling!

It's just not possible for me now and to tell you the truth, I don't think there is a strong homeschooling network here.

If I'm going to homeschool, I'd like the girls to have plenty of opportunities to meet other homeschoolers so they wouldn't feel like oddballs.

Heh, I don't really need my heart anyway, a fire-demon would be cool. Better company than your cats, at least!

Psst... getting to be an oddball is one of the h/s perks...

Anyway, obviously you're one of those people who isn't in a situation where it's possible, but you're doing the same thing for your girls that good parents alway do, you're being involved and making sure they get raised as best you can.

Hehehe...

When I worked fer the state I had a supervisor who came in everyday complaining about the 40+ math problems her kid brought in with no clue how to do them.

I mentioned homeschooling to her and she 'bout had a cow.

"Sure...why not?" You're doing the teacher's job already. [fan flames]

Yeah, but I'm not talking about just the regular ladies...I'm talking about the leadership. They know exactly what they've done. They split off by their own decision...but they're still hanging around on the egroup!

I'm not going to boot anyone till after this meeting. And maybe even not till after the next meeting!

But they know the egroup rules and ought to have the courtesy to not still be posting since they've split off from the group.

I just got an email from Big CHEF...it addresses the embezzlement issue. I need to eat something before I try to absorb it all...
