The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You used to have a poster with the blueprints for the Enterprise...didn't you?

Poster? Book? Nah... I have these, the original pack of 12 blueprints for the "Constitution" class starship, published in 1974. And yes, despite lots of poring over them when I was younger, they are still in perfect condition...

I also have this, published in 1975. I remember finding it in my Mom's Christmas gift hiding place and having it all read before I ever opened the package Christmas Day.

I occasionally wonder what I could get for them on eBay (especially when I'm between projects, like now) but I'd have to be very desperate indeed to put them up for auction...

LOL! What a devious child geek you were, Bear!

Heh, yeah... but it's not like I didn't read and re-read it several times *after* Christmas, too, LOL.

So what's the fix?

I'm not sure I can confidently say that I know. There is an uninstaller for nail.exe (the aurora hijacker) but... and it's a big but... it is offered by the same outfit that wrote the malmare in the first place.

Out of desperation I did finally decide to give it a try, and it did appear to work, and it didn't appear to do anything else. But nobody trusts them, and rightfully so. If you google on "aurora" or "nail.exe" you see dozens of help sites about this thing. Much of the language is [ahem] colorful. I tried lots of other methods that I found posted on lots of various tech help sites... with no joy.

I do not know if I've blundered into more future trouble by using the uninstaller... but so far so good, and the re-spawning processes and the nail.exe and the popups are gone.

The uninstaller is here:
http://www.mypctuneup.com/evaluate.php?b=aurora

I feel a little uncomfortable recommending it, but I don't know of anything else that works. An uninstaller that ~requires~ you to be connected to the internet to run, and politely asks you to disable your firewall and antivirus-- this just *screams* suspicions.

I ran it with my firewall up and with my antivirus running, and it worked just fine and nothing appears to have been left behind.

So there you have it.

Nice seeing you here during the daylight hours! :-D

It's official. I ~must~ stay away from dollar stores.

I just spent $15.00 on coloring books, play doh, pretzels and Hawaiian Punch! LOL!!

~snicker~

I started with the play doh, but then I saw this cute little set with a rolling pin, cookie cutters, etc to go with it. Then I spotted these great doodle pads with 100 blank sheets in them, which got me thinking that Alyson might need a new set of those fat crayons.

I spotted some paperback romance novels over by that section, so I had to go in a bit further and found a few that looked good.

Then my stomach growled....

Which of course led me to the section with food, where I bought a box of Bavarian Pretzels and the big jug of Hawaiian Punch.

*shakes head*

I told myself I was just going to see what they had. Never shoulda walked in.

Cool.... it's always a good thing for a geek kid to have an enabling parent.

We didn't have blueprints, but we had these "Nitpickers' Guide" for the first two ST shows, so every time we watched episodes we'd seen before we looked for the little bloopers. That was fun.

Finishing up on the pasture mowing! Curses on me for letting it get this overgrown with weeds... We sprayed some weed killer on the scotch bloom... So now we'll keep the horses off it till we get some rain on it. ecurbh off there in the distance is trying to get the sprayer to work. It only has a gallon capacity, so... like the mower, we just don't have a big enough tool for the job. It takes too many trips back in to re-fill. We're not yet ready to manage 20 acres. :~D

Finishing up the last little bit mowing!

This little Dove has something wrong.... they normally don't let me get this close, even at the bird feeder. I thought about trying to catch her and see if I could tell what was wrong, but she eventually flew away. Don't know what was up with her.

A lizard we found while mowing!

We also saw several field mice scampering away when we approached with the mower... should take Gidget with us out mowing, she'd like that! Oh well.... they're welcome to live.... out there. They just can't live in my barn.

Cool! I didn't know you had lizards in Washington!

It definitely looks different than the ones we have in Florida, but cool nevertheless. :-D

Let's hope the dove was just restin' and doesn't have some weird disease. :-/

You need a ride-on mower in a terrible way, chica.

Well, except the exercise is good for me, if my feet didn't hurt so much!

Horseback riding is great exercise too!

You can mow the pasture on a ride-on, and then take Bay for a spin or two.

If you still need to sweat, grab a weedwacker and/or edger and follow the perimeter. :-D

I'd like one of those walk-behind field and brush mowers they advertise on TV.

Afternoon Hair - that's a heap of mowing, the lawnmower seems up to the task, judging by the results. hmmm. Those walk-behind field mowers are pretty nice.

Glad to see there is not a Tansey in sight.

We've got a family or two of mourning doves that live around the house, about a dozen or so. We enjoy having them around.

Don't know what kind of bait, er. lizard you have there. Books are at the office.
