New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |

Still round the corner there may wait |

Home is behind, the world ahead, |
That almost deserves to be a tagline.
Bart: You be my guest, and I be your host. What be your pleasure, Jim? What do you like to do?
Jim: I don't know... play chess... screw...
Bart: [quickly] Let's play chess.
I just had a few ideas on how to cut corners, and maybe dampen enthusiasm a bit.
First, don't engrave the Hobbit Hole logo on any more knives. Saves $5 per knife, and about a week in turnaround time. I'd actually be pretty much caught up from the current rush if I had about two dozen Gerbers, and didn't have to have them engraved. The Camillus folding knife will be engraved at the factory, since I decided to get all 100 at once. At the current rate, one hundred could last years, since requests for sheath knives run about 20-to-1. And I make sure that sheath knives don't go to remfs. Never had to deny anybody yet, because I'm hearing from line units.
Second, an article from someone OTHER than me, explaining why donations are always welcome. This would be at the Hobbit Hole site.
Third, some sort of limited appeal here on FR. Again, we have to explain quite clearly that if we were a tax-exempt foundation, we'd never be able to ship a knife. Now if a lawyer wanted to donate those efforts ...
Anyway, those are some quick ideas from me. I can have some "business cards" printed up with our Hobbit Hole info on them, in lieu of the engraving. I'm including a similar card from Camillus already.
And Young Frankenstein, of course.
I just adore Gene Wilder. His movies with Richard Pryor were a PIYP riot!
I think all that sounds good.
we'll do the site update.. and a thread next week when it's done.
MANY MANY THANKS TO OUR MEN AND WOMEN!! YOU ARE IN OUR DEEPEST PRAYERS EVERY DAY!!!
See y'all later... or morning.... I'm hitting the couch.
dont know how much good it will do, as I think I have about four people who regularly visit my site, but I can post on the Hobbit Hole needing donations tomorrow!!
Right behind ya, sis.
I'm dead tired. It's been the week from hell so far and I've got a new rep that I'm training all week. She's seeing planty, lemme tell ya. :-P
But I am going riding again this weekend. So I definitely have something to look forward to.
Nighty night everyone!
I'd be OK with doing away with the logo... it's sorta sad, but when you figure in the cost, and that it's what... maybe the cost of one knife in four or five... perhaps it could go.
I've also had this recurring nightmare about a "hobbit-hole" engraved knife stolen or otherwise misused in some horribly public and CNN-televised fashion. I'm sitting there in the green vinyl chair saying "I'm sorry Senator, I don't recall..." and then I wake up. :-)
Nite nite. :-)
'Tain't the cheese, I love cheese. It's the... tone, maybe.
And the songs. Ugh, the songs.
I like your tagline. But they're doing that themselves, no?
We need The Man Who Sold the Moon.
Absolutely a great story; brings both a smile and grimace. Well, don't keep us in suspense, or will we have to wait for a year for the next edition of the continuing story.
Long, Long, Ago, in a ....
How about "Buy Jupiter!"
:-)
fun day...
got to help blow stuff up, observe a live fire with machine guns and small arms, saw some A-10s do strafing runs, got to b!%$# slap some MPs, found a huge patch of blackberries, black raspberries and raspberries, saw about 30 turkeys and a dozen deer... a glorious day...
the soldier with severe heat stroke was evac'ed to Columbia... nothing further...
I needtuh hit the hay...
I have no idea what happened after that. I swiftly left the house to check on the chickens.
I don't want any part of it.
But I have to go now, Matthew cut his thumb on his toenail. Deep. He's bleeding, even.
~sigh~
Sounds like a fine way to spend a day. :-) Anything involving machine guns and A-10's is better than most days I have at the office, anyway... :-P
Sounds like matters are serious for the soldier with heatstroke. Bad deal.
I saw 4 F-16s fly over today and a Black Hawk flew over the house too...twice, but I think it was the same one, there and back again so to speak.
The Black Hawk flew right over...didn't circle but the side was open and I'm pretty sure they saw us down here waving like crazy.
God Bless 'Em.
And God bless and keep the soldier with the heat stroke...
