The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I think fan therapy might be the riskier option in your case....

I have a tunnel fan

I guess I know what I can use on those "personal summers"

I've only been to two weddings/receptions. Neither was a *whole* lot of fun, but at least at my brother's wedding, I could hang out with Dad who is at least as uncomfortable in crowds as I am. The whole ordeal was hard on him...the travel, the meeting new people, the accepting favors from strangers...just really hard.

He even danced once. He and I. ;-) It was so sweet. *sniff*

I think it was right after that when I ended up momentarily in the rest room bawling 'cause it was the first really momentous occasion since Mom's death and I knew we were all aware of that.

She would sooo have loved my brother's wife, though. And her whole family for that matter - they're really an awesome group, and that made it all much easier.

Pointless reminiscing...but nice. ;-)

Get this...one of the alternative treatments for hot flashes they discussed was...no joke...a FAN.

Well, why not? Heh.... I swear I'm getting hot flashes from time to time, all I want is a fan and some ice water. I'll not be taking hormones.... Particularly not Premarin, just because of what it is, and the horses that suffer for it. But then, you all know my soft spot for the critters.

I paused more than once and wished my mom had been able to be at mine. I'm more used to her not being there, we've had many momentous occasions without her because she's been gone so long now, but I still notice it. I hope I always do.

A walkout by hurricanes would be welcome. Notice that I didn't use the word "strike."

If nothing else, Freerepublic has improved my typing skills.

I just ordered a dozen of these small wooden hand fans from Oriental Trading.

They were about $7 a half-dozen. They're lightly scented, and move the air very nicely. They also pop open and closed very nicely. I had one on our Girl Scout Trip to NYC a few years ago and all the girls wanted to learn how to open and close it like I did. ;o)

I keep one in my purse at all times. We don't have A/C in our church, and it has been pretty hot this summer, so I like having one with me at all times.

We've been having communal summers at the office. The AC keeps kicking off and we all get snappish. Yesterday was particularly bad.

We have a dairy thermometer in the room. It has markings for yogurt, cheese, churning, etc. Yesterday was cheese temperature - 86 degrees.

I don't care for the common assumption that casual equates to boorish. And I don't think being an ettiquite-nazi is the epitome of class. This hasn't been stated in so many words on the wedding thread, but they're coming close.

Yes, you said it right. Go say it there!

Unfortunately, I think the best any of us can hope for is delay of game.

She doesn't have a closer friend here at school, she has some at home. She does want me to be a bridesmaid, I know. But I can't. I just can't. I'd have to spend money I don't have, and give up at least ten days I could spend with my family because I can't very well fly back home again after her wedding.

We are good friends, even if we've only been friends for a year, because there's only a couple girls in our program and we have some other things in common. I'd like to be there. But I can't.

That's a great way to look at it!

There's a silly thread about how HP leads to evil... always is one at this point in the book-release cycle.

I can't imagine having a wedding where I didn't know everyone I'd invited... but then, I hope when I get married I'll have a very small wedding, as I've said before.

It happens.... as I said on the wedding thread.... sometimes you end up having to invite classes of people, coworkers, husband's coworkers.... Probably will happen to you more when you're paired up.... you get invited because you're the spouse. - Or you invite someone you've never met, because they're the spouse of someone you know.

Even though she has been gone for around a decade, I still catch myself getting ready to call Mom up and tell her the latest thing I think she'd be interested in, like what one of the kids may have done, or whatever. I'm sure the feeling never goes away, we never truly get over the loss of our loved ones.

Well, our church hasn't got room for more than a hundred-fifty people, and half of that's gonna be family...
