They've stated their case to the Lubbock County Commissioners, now, the Criminal Defense Lawyers Association is waiting for an answer. The Association wants Commissioners to remove a victim's memorial stone on the courthouse lawn. They believe a quote on the stone could influence jurors and prevent fair trials. The quote reads: "Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are."
Defense attorneys say the problem is not the memorial, but the monument. Documents originally asked for grant money for the garden and the benches, but does not say anything about the monument, and it's the quote that is causing a controversy.

What is your take on this? Maybe you should ping some of our Lubbock pals (past and present residents) for this one.
Sounds like another case of "We can't have suspects in court with handcuffs because it makes them look guilty"
In related News, it seems as though our Ten Commandments may stay...for now.

I appeared in court in my trustee whites once. It proved my case for me because the crime was committed while I was in jail.
Now that IS innovative!
I would tell them to Get back on the horse they came in on. They have no claim that the monument cannot exist, there is no sponsorship of state religion (lol) and if someone is offended by the monument they should be told to " Get over it".
This group has done similar things here in the past and they get their knickers into a wad at the drop of a hat.
On anthor line of thought, I am thinking of going to Hastings to hassle Kinky Friedman during his book signing; it would be nice to see some Lubbock FReepers there to hassle the git.
Innovative was getting out of jail and putting "trustee at Jackson county jail" on my first job application and getting the job. I put the guards and judge down as references.
That is creative AND b*llsy! Also, it has a certain sense of style. How the heck did you accomplish that? Do you mind if I ask what offense they claimed that you committed?

I first heard about this late yesterday and saw that KCBD posted it on their website today. I am beginning to think that citizens should pool their money for a privately owned park that contains nothing but monuments and memorials that drive liberals nuts.
There's also a copy of the 10 commandments in the courthouse, or so I heard on TV last night. I also heard the reporter say that the county judge said that if the county got sued over the commandments, they'd take them down. Of course, the reporter could've misrepresented the county judge's quote, but I was slightly appalled to hear it.
"Of course, the reporter could've misrepresented the county judge's quote, but I was slightly appalled to hear it."
I am appalled as well. We are in a community where churches outnumber cats and, yet, a judge would buckle that easily to pressure.
Are you going to go see Kinky Friedman at Hastings today? He is supposed to be there now shilling for his new book. Is mooning someone considered assualt?
LOL! I guess I'll know how to find you! Slide Road or 4th?
I think that is the location mentioned on the radio.
Slide and 82nd (they just mentioned the event again on the radio).
