Al Pacino or Robert De Niro?
Shameless Vanity ^ | 06/27/2005 | EEE

Who do you think is the better actor? I just had to post this - I saw almost all of the movies of both actors and I for one cannot decide who's the more crazier, the more talented, or the more scarier of the two.

Me? I have to concede that Pacino would get the edge. Pacino bested DeNiro in "Heat", and he was in the original "Godfather." But DeNiro made more movies - and some of his characters would give Pacino the run for his money (and no, DeNiro STILL couldn't carry Robert Mitchum's role in "Cape Fear", IMO)

It was reinstated after it went to arbitration - it's takes a couple of days before one's homepage goes back to normal (or so I've been told).

I love Deniro. Especially in some movies like as Father Bobby in Sleepers, Analyze This, Meet the Parents, Jackie Brown. Bronx Tale, Boys Life, Midnight Run, Awakenings..and on and on and on.

WHO HAS MORE RANGE? I say Deniro hands down.

Remember that Pacino turned down some roles too. Pacino even turned down the role of Han Solo in the original Star Wars.

DeNiro. Always more interesting and real. Pacino has made one lousy, pretentious movie after another.

I loved DeNiro as the looney electrician in Terry Gilliam's Brazil...
if you have not seen it, SEE IT... (make sure it is the Terry Gilliam version, not the supid Americanized Hollywood botch version).

I also loved him in The Misson where he played the sinner.... fabulous....

Deniro is incoherent as a human being off the stage or set Pacino is a flaming Lib, but can construct a sentace off the set, not many but at least one or two. They are both gifted actors, but empty shells as human beings.

I just can't picture Al as Hans Solo!

As for who is a better actor, I never tell anyone outside the family what I am thinking! ;-)

Pacino.

For me De Niro is always playing the same character. He can't change his delivery enough to make me see anyone but De Niro.

Pacino often chews up the scenery, but he almost never resembles the same character twice (except when the director is a complete moron, as in Frankie and Johnie).

Think the Godfather saga, Dog Day Afternoon and Scent of a Woman for Pacino vs Taxi Driver, Godfather 2 and virtually anything else De Niro has done.

Tell me the difference in De Niro's performances?

Pacino over acts sometimes but he does not pick so many rolls. De Niro does not over act but does to many movies also he is better at comedy.

I can't believe it! You named 2 of my 3 favorite DeNiro films! "Brazil" and "The Mission" are two must-sees.

For the lighter side, you can't forget "Midnight Run" with Charles Grodin. Hilarious.

Which movies have they starred in which would be perosonal favourites. (ones I watch over and over and over and over again)

The answer would have to be De Niro. 2-1

Scarface Vs Once Upon A time in America and The Mission (yes I love Ennio Morricone music).

Pacino. I can even watch him in a mediocre movie and enjoy it.

I've come to like neither.
If someone had a gun to my head and made me choose I'd say Pacino just because I think he's not as one dimensional as DeNiro.
I liked Pacino in Devil's Advocate and Insomnia.
I think his character in Heat had one good moment.
"GIMME ALL YOU GOT!!"

What was the gun Al Pacino used in Heat?

[Foghorn Leghorn]That's a joke, son.[/Foghorn Legorn]
Please, for the love of all that is decent don't answer that question.

I used to think Deniro, but have since switched to Pacino(my buddies and I were just talking about this).

I saw Deniro in an interview and he started crying while talking about The Deer Hunter. "Oh those boys were just so young and then what happened to them." Made me want to puke.

Its a freakin movie you nut job!

Pacino in Heat was awesome also Donnie Brasco where he played the opposite of his usual roles.

Deniro's best role is probably either Goodfellas or as Capone in Untouchables. He was also pretty good in Heat.

I'd pick DeNiro a little bit over Pacino.

Nobody mentioned DeNiro in COPLAND. His part was small, but he had a good role in it. Good movie.

Robert De Niro as Jimmy Conway in Goodfella's. Classic De Niro.

Pacino by far. Not even close. The variety of roles Pacino has played dwarfs DeNiro.

De Niro has a shorter emotional range then Pacino and less facial contortions, but it elevates his personna above that of Pacino via innuendo.

Pacino can stretch his face, but DeNiro can get into your brain.

Both great, no fair making us choose! :-)
