I have an older 30 Gig unit. I have 'collected' about 3,000 of my favorite songs. If I don't want a song, the PC makes a backup, or I can simply hit the 'delete' key.

But, although it's great travellign with a 'radio station' that never plays commericals, and ONLY plays songs you like; the unsung benefit to me is the fact that whatever space isn't being used for my music; serves as data storage and backup from my pc.

Digital pictures, files, programs, movies .... whatever are easily transported and played on just about ANY PC. It's a battery powered, portable hard drive too.

However, don't think that Apple will have its way with the iPod.

With pretty much every other portable music player manufacturer supporting the Windows Media Audio (.WMA) format and the fact Yahoo! recently started up an online music store with US$0.79 cent/song downloads in .WMA format, Apple could face serious competition down the road--probably within a year or so. This would be especially true if Yahoo! could get exclusives for their online music store.
