Who Would You Choose to Have a Beer With? (past or present)
Beer Addled Brain | 6/12/05 | Pissant

Some of our most cherished memories in life revolve around sharing a drink with loved ones and friends. A fine bottle of Cabernet with your spouse on your anniversary. A 12 year old scotch with your father. Shots of tequila with the girl you've been after for months. Etc, Etc.

There are certainly people in our history and living today, that I would give my left nu.., er little toe, to share a beer and a long-winded conversation with. The following is off the top of my head, and hundreds more could be included:

LIVING:

3. Bob Dylan - my all time favorite enigmatic musician

2. Donald Rumsfeld - A real man amongst girly men

1. Mark Steyn - perhaps the most insightful, wittiest man on the planet

DEAD

3. Ernest Hemmingway - one of the few writers of fiction I love.

2. Ronald Reagan - The hero of our times

1. Ben Franklin - My alltime favorite historical figure.

Jimmy Stewart is a good one, but I LOVE Walter Matthau. That would be fun.

Oh, and add another living choice to my list; my uncle Phil, who is eighty something. He was a pilot in WWII, and is absolutely superb.

Oh, and two more who have passed away. My Grandpa, who was a sniper in WWI, and his dad, who fought in the Civil War.

History as told by the men who were there. How cool would that be? And I wonder how much of it would match up with the b.s. text books from high school?

Dead: William Blake Helen Keller Joseph Smith

Helen Keller?

Why, so conversation wouldn't interfere with your drinking?

A beer with Martin Luther. Or least and an afternoon helping his wife in the kitchen. That gal knew how to run a tight household and throw a great party.

I suppose the "Ahhrrium, blat, ahhg, eeeermph, augmented with a slight drool, would put the refreshing beer as a priority to discussion.

Ben Franklin, George Washington, and Thomas Jefferson. There'd be endless conversation material, then when we get really drunk we could go tear stuff up.

"""1. Mark Steyn - perhaps the most insightful, wittiest man on the planet"""

When I found out that Steyn's hometown is Toronto I was shocked. Toronto is not known for producing great talent.

Although ... my uncle, Joe, is from there and he's no slouch either.

Yep, and slightly more amusing than having a beer with "me, myself and (possibly) Irene" (depending on who Irene is.....)
