The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It really is almost like a syrup! (Thicker, though.)

Wouldn't that be yummy over ice cream, or on Steve's pancakes?

Yes indeed!

We've got about a 1/2 a bushel left...I'll probably try to make more jam, since I figured out what I was doing wrong. The last batch was perfect.

The letter writer asks, "Whom do we thank for the morning air show?" The 56th Fighter Wing will call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.

What a perfectly awesome smackdown!! I hope that maroon feels suitably chastised, but something tells me he won't.

Nope, I am at home using my slow machine. Plugged into the phone line. Have fun tomorrow. Wish I were going with you. Peddle hard.

You are hooked up at home??? Awesome!

Thanks for the encouragement...I wish you were going too. Next year, RSVP, right? :)

Oh, BTW, I found out that RSVP finishes in Vancouver the day of the "Festival of Lights" fireworks competition. Is that cool or what?

Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call,

Hate to tell him, but Tom Cruise was the wannabe who played it in a movie.... The ones he saw are actually the real guys the movies are made of ;~D

2J... the Blackfive link you gave links to the original letter, too.

I was gonna wait till after the 'thon to start a new thread, just to avoid having the 'thon ad in Post 1 for the duration of the thread. Guess it doesn't really matter.

Has everyone in here donated? The 'thon is going' slow, we gotta keep the lights on in the HH!

Let's wait... can't be more than a week or so more, right? They usually add in the pledges around 50% and then everything goes yellow.

I mailed out two Camillus BK2s, a couple of Camillus folders, and a Gerber aircrew knife to the Army NG aviation unit earlier in the week. Today, I got hit with a flood of happy emails as the knives arrived, and were passed around. It sounds like Christmas arrived early.

There's literally a dozen emails, but here's the latest, from the LT who received the Gerber. He also contributed to the Hobbit Hole project, already.

----------------

This is 1LT Craig W. I just received the knife today....WOW!!! Those are about the only words I can use to describe this thing. I have a flight tomorrow morning that I will have some time to play with this while we're in the woods. I will definitely give you some feedback!!! Already I am amazed that you folks are giving this quality of equipment away. I know word has spread like wildfire about these knives that the 4 of us have received. I hope we don't overwhelm your resources. I am planning to get some folks to donate to the cause, and I don't think they will mind the least bit. Again, thank you very much. It's a good feeling to know that we have people like you supporting us on the homefront. I will be sending you reviews as I get to use this knife!!!!

It never ceases to amaze me how they can be so grateful to us when it is ~us~ that are so grateful to them.

My tagline says it all...

Just received this email from a college classmate. Her son is finishing his training and had some health setbacks. Winmag sent a knife to his home:

"Corin"

The knife came in today and it is just beautiful, pretty technical, too, with all the straps and attachments. I was glad that I had looked at the website so I recognized the harness/shroud line cutter. (I would hate to be an ignorant mom.) I have copied the website with the picture of the knife and harness cutter to send to K. When I spoke to him on Tuesday, he had just gotten the letter telling him about your organization and the knife. He was very uplifted to know that you were supporting him.

I will keep J in my prayers, and I guess I should pray that you can successfully maneuver a ladder without any help, too.

Many blessings and thanks again for all the support for K,

"K's Mom"
