Well, it's been a long time ago, but IIRC, the gist was that psychotherapy does it's patients a disservice by keeping them dependent on the program until their insurance runs out and never informing their patients of the complete and total healing powers of Jesus Christ as part of their road to wellness.

But all I got out was "Psychotherapy does it's patients a disservice" or something like that...I didn't get the rest of what I wanted to say out and the guy got really pissed off at me. My SS teacher stopped me, thinking I was gonna say something offensive, I guess.

You'll at least need a taller frame than most. Which is why just findin' one in the classifieds might not work. But you likely have at least some places around that sell used bikes, right?

Or, as I said, places that rent bikes, and then sell last year's each spring / early summer.

I'm gonna wait another week or so to decide whether to get a new seat. Mine's not too bad, just a little uncomfortable, and I'm not sure anything would be better.

But I do get paid this week and I'm gonna buy one expensive or two cheap bike accoutrements (expensive means ~$50 range) I think. Depends what I decide I really need.

Go to a store that has seats you can sit on and find one you can live with. Padded bike shorts are a nice investment. Now-a-days they make them that look like cargo shorts so you don't HAVE to wear the spandex look. Get good grips. Your hands take a bit of weight so cater to them.

Anyways, Steve took me home, then went back up to the church and told the guy he better not ever approach me again.

The guy never has.

He is a bigwig too, in our church and in the community...he's on the radio all the time giving his psychiatric opinion about stuff.

First things I want: mirror, gloves, and possibly a bell. There are lots of people out on the trails in the mornings, and I did a lot of saying "Comin' up on your left!" or "Passing!", which was the way they told us to do it last time I was riding much...but a bell works well.

But the mirror and the gloves are all but essential.

When I got mine I picked out the bike, the seat, and the tires and they put it all together for me.

We're allowed to bring our bikes in for a tune-up before the 30 day mark...I'm kinda thinkin' that doesn't include anything more than a quick look-over, but if we came in during the day, they might be willing to do a tire swap for a small fee. Only catch is that *that* shop carries a limited range of tires...may not have what I want, and I dunno what they'd say if I brought in some I'd bought elsewhere.

I am gonna start trying to carry my backpack. For starters, mostly empty, just to see how it affects my ride. Biking to school during the semester only works if I can get my stuff there...

PS - there's nothing wrong or weird with going to Chili's just for a single margarita on a Monday evening, is there?

A few years a go on a stretch of sidewalk with a wall next to it a little girl stepped right out in front of me from behind the wall. I hit full brakes which involved the front wheel stopping and the bike continuing to rotate around it. I ended up in a pile on the sidewalk. Wrist has never been quite the same sense. Partly my fault since that was not a normal bike trail. Now I don't go that way and I keep my front tire brake tuned a little weak so it will not lock the tire. I would get a bell (most of the ones I saw in japan had them) but there is no room for me to mount one.

On longer rides I wear my Camelpak with water in it. Really has no effect on balance as long as the straps are not way lose.

I'm thinkin' maybe the blue. ;-) They also make a pink, but it's not in the picture...

I should learn to do bike maintenance. Trouble is, I used to ride with a bunch of guys who were *total* bike geeks...always drooling over the latest unobtanium parts that shaved x grams off a typical components weight...stuff like that. And they were happy to replace cables for me or tweak derailleurs or whatever. I've seen a lot of stuff done, but don't *really* know how to do it.

Only if you get brightly-colored spandex to wear too.

My bike is dark and muted. It can lurk in the shadows and then pounce on you. I think it might just be related to Calvin's bike (remember in Calvin & Hobbes, his bike would try to eat him?)

I think I had bell on one side, computer on the other, and the headlight crammed as close to the middle on the right as I could. But yeah...bike dashboards don't have much space. ;-)

I want a computer too, come to think of it. Weird not having one. I kept looking down today to check my speed and distance, but there wasn't anything there.

Well, I'll start with a mostly empty bag. Will have to be able to balance with ten or so pounds, once the semester starts (I don't usually have to carry text books). But by then I'll definitely weigh less myself so the total poundage should still be better than it is now.
