Primetime's latest religious nut is Orthodox Jew

A Conservative rabbi's analysis

Meet Devo "Esther" Friedman.

Appearing on ABC's hospital show "Grey's Anatomy" and played by Sarah Hagan — best known for her "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" recurring character — she's a 17 year-old baalas teshuvah, or returnee to religious observance, who has taken a biblical name because she no longer wants to be named after an Eighties rocker.

"My parents did too much blow," the teen explains. "I call myself Esther."

Esther is angry, rude and self-righteous — and sick. Very sick. She has serious heart problems. But when doctors attempt to save her life by implanting a "porcine valve", that is, one made from a pig product, she goes ballistic.

"You're letting them put a pig, a freaking non-kosher traif [ritually impure] mammal into my chest, into my heart, the very essence of my being?", she protests. As if the crack about blow wasn't enough, later Esther will malign her parents again: "You guys don't even light candles Friday nights," she proclaims. "You don't even know all the Passover plagues."

There actually is already such an organization. It's called "Towards Tradition" and it is headed by Rabbi Daniel Lapin.

Religous Jews, traditional Catholics and evangelical Christians need to form an organization like CAIR

Lets call it Israel, and when Sharons corruption of goverment causes the present society to collapse, lets move there.

Yes I am serious. It would bring a whole new light to the idea of disengagement.

"Didn't Madonna the non-Jew already call dibs on the name Esther?"

That was my first thought...

In the episode last week, Sunday, April 30, 2006, they mocked the Catholic Church regarding their rules for birth control. The piece had to do with a pregnant mother with her 6th or 7th child who didn't want to have anymore children so she decided to have her tubes tied while undergoing the C-section. The doctor agreed while they both conspired to NOT tell the husband. She also went on to say that her husband abstained from sex for 2 years until he wanted another child. They tried to make the husband look like a nut-case while also making the church to look foolish, mean to women and out of touch with the modern world.

The MSM are enjoying a love affair with Islam. Judeo-Christian religious beliefs are now fair game. This has gone too far.

I forgot to mention that I don't watch any TV except for "24" and "South Park."

Lol! I don't watch any TV except for EWTN and the Food Network. I used to be a news junkie, switching back and forth between Fox News, MSNBC, CNN and local networks. Each night, I found myself screaming at the TV news anchors in utter frustration over their coverage of various stories. I gave it up for Lent two years ago and never went back. All the news I need to read is right here on FR. Thanks, Alouette, for posting this thread!

Catholics have one...the Catholic League. They should be contacted too on this one...they've allied with and fought for Orthodox Jews on other issues before.

I forgot that I posted this thread a year ago. I thought this was a new thread about Shmuely Boteach. I think he has a new reality show.

Snarky reaction to news that 3rd (or 4th, 6th, 7th, etc.) child is on the way: "You do know how that happens?"

Reply, without skipping a beat: "Oh yes - we enjoy it, don't you?"

Another version:

Snarky comment: "Don't you have a TV?"

Reply: "Of course we do - but don't you think there are better things to do with your time?"

Another version:

Snarky comment: "Wow - this is the last one - right?"

Reply: "Why would we stop when each child brings more joy than the last? Why don't you have more?"
