Meet Devo "Esther" Friedman.
Appearing on ABC's hospital show "Grey's Anatomy" and played by Sarah Hagan — best known for her "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" recurring character — she's a 17 year-old baalas teshuvah, or returnee to religious observance, who has taken a biblical name because she no longer wants to be named after an Eighties rocker.
"My parents did too much blow," the teen explains. "I call myself Esther."
Esther is angry, rude and self-righteous — and sick. Very sick. She has serious heart problems. But when doctors attempt to save her life by implanting a "porcine valve", that is, one made from a pig product, she goes ballistic.
"You're letting them put a pig, a freaking non-kosher traif [ritually impure] mammal into my chest, into my heart, the very essence of my being?", she protests. As if the crack about blow wasn't enough, later Esther will malign her parents again: "You guys don't even light candles Friday nights," she proclaims. "You don't even know all the Passover plagues."

Leaving aside the fact that pork-derived insulin and surgical implants are completely permissible according to Jewish law, can you imagine "Grey's Anatomy" portraying a Muslim character?
Religous Jews, traditional Catholics and evangelical Christians need to form an organization like CAIR.

I think the writers "did too much blow", TV went off for Lent, and it is still off.
Didn't Madonna the non-Jew already call dibs on the name Esther?
When CAIR complains about a movie or TV show's portrayal of Muslims, the producers and writers can't change it fast enough to please them.
When the Catholic League complains about a movie or TV show's portrayal of Catholics, the producers and writers laugh at them and include more of the same.
The reason is obvious: Catholics, U-O Jews and evangelicals don't run around beheading people.
FYI..I saw the episode, and admittedly, late on Sunday, after a long weekend, and not focusing real hard, I felt the character portrayal was sincere and honest, sympathetic.. and not demeaning of her belief in Orthodox Judaism. She's a teenager, and as a rule, they are NOT rocket scientists..but in what came across very strongly, IMHO, was her contentment at finding something that gave her comfort ..her faith, when compared to the vapid existence of her parents..She was far more mature, and grounded, than they were. The show is basically entertainment..you can't, dare I say it, "preach" too hard..or you end up with NO audience..
Well, as my father always says "If in doubt...blame the Jews!" Yes, we are Jewish.
Devo? I used to like that band.

Seriously, you're absolutely right; such an organized alliance is long overdue. Those who can't bring themselves to see it are simply blind to the realities--for all of us--as they quite simply are.
The writers are idiots. It is totally permissible to derive hanah from pig. Now if they'd wanted to rebuild her heart with beef stroganoff, that might have been a problem. ;)
I know a lot of Jewish girls named Devo. It's a nickname for Devorah.
I think it is in the pronounciation. I have been in and around the frum community for many years (and have a teenage daughter) and don't hear the name Devo pronounced like the band Devo. (long e, long o "dee-vo). Of course, it might be an Israeli thing. I don't know.
I have heard Didi, Devi, Dudi, Duhvi, but not any deee-vo's (long o).
I think if we examined Ms. Schmear and "Rabbi" Michelle Meshugah's anatomy, we'd find they did quite a bit of "blow" themselves.
