Stuart Townsend, previously seen as Anne Rice's vampire protagonist in Queen of the Damned and as Dorian Gray in the film adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, has been tapped to play Jeff Rice's intrepid reporter that faces the supernatural, Carl Kolchak.
The new pilot for The Night Stalker is being produced by former X-Files Executive producer, Frank Spotnitz, and was commissioned by ABC, who is eager to find the next big supernatural franchise. The evidence of tinkering with the concept is evident just by the casting notices: Kolchak has been given a "partner" to be played in the pilot by Gabrielle Union, soon to be seen in the re-make of the television classic, The Honeymooners. Still left to be cast is Kolchak's long suffering editor yet staunchest supporter, Tony Vincenzo.

I loved that TV show.
Me too! :)
So9, were you a fan?
I grew up watching the original Kolchak. The new Night Stalker just won't be the same. :-)
Darren McGavin was one of a kind. America in 2005 just doesn't have the panache ...
I saw Stuart Townsend in "League". I'm sure he'll bring something new and interesting to the part. (I'm guessing he's not going to be the sloppy reporter-style type that McGavin played... lol... but I could be wrong).

Great TV show.
Related: does anyone remember the TV show, around the same time, where the Air Force investigators were checking out UFO sightings and abductions? I can't remember the name of the show, but I remember a line from the beginning credits:
"Ezekiel saw the wheel. This is the wheel he said he saw."
Does anyone know what show I'm talking about?
OHHH ES rack ittttt
I hear about this who doesn't sucks LOL!
Project:UFO
Your recommendations are good ones. I recently watched the two TV movies on DVD and they hold up well, very entertaining, especially if you like the quaint 70's setting. Interesting, too, how the series messes with the backstory set up in these two films, if I recall correctly.
The screenwriter of these was Richard Matheson, one of the great American fantasy/horror writers--he wrote, among MANY others, Duel, Trilogy of Terror, the Twilight Zone episodes "Little Girl Lost," "Third from the Sun," the one with William Shatner seeing the gremlin on the wing of the plane, as well as Incredible Shrinking Man, I Am Legend (Omega Man), etc. etc .etc.
Yeah, Dan Curtis was not involved in the series, even though he created the movies.
Project: UFO???
Wow, I NEVER would have gotten that. That cluster of brain cells must have died long ago. Thanks!
I have an incredible memory for useless info, and NO memory for important stuff. Go figure.
Yeah, I just saw that over at IMDb. That and Kolchak only lasted one season. I thought they were on much longer.
