Ellen DeGeneres reveals in the latest issue of Allure magazine that her stepfather molested her as a teenager.
While speaking about her messy breakup with actress Anne Heche, the talk-show host said her stepfather insisted on feeling her breast while DeGeneres' mother was fighting breast cancer. She said the incident later escalated into "other things" and her stepfather, now deceased, tried to break into her bedroom.
"I had to kick a window out and escape and sleep in a hospital all night long," DeGeneres told Allure.
DeGeneres said she's speaking about the incident because "it's important for teenage girls out there to hear that there are different ways to say no. And if it ever happens to them, they should tell someone right away."
She said the occurrences, which happened in her late teens, had no effect on her sexual orientation. DeGeneres' "coming out" was featured on a 1997 Time magazine cover and as a plot in her ABC sitcom.

And how would she know this? How does anyone know what one's subconscious motivation might be?
Interesting. There is no way to tell.
Hmmm. A possible cause for her attraction to the same sex? NAW. Can't be!
And wasn't Rosie also molested?
No effect on her sexual preference either, I'm sure.
Boy talk about taking NO to the extreme!~}
Another mere coincidence.
sounds like she is trying to convince herself.
Her step dad was one sick man.
Then it's just a stunning coincidence that there is such a huge percentage of homosexuals who were molested as children? She's in denial.
I'm sure that she has convinced herself of that. As has Rosie.
No no no no no no no no.
They are BORN that way. And any who say differently are quickly hushed by the gay thought gestapo (re: Anne Heche).
I was molested as a teenager by an adult male. It hasn't turned me into a lesbian!
I don't know, if she was in her late teens, she probably already knew which direction she was going. Maybe this molestation sealed the deal, but by 17and 18 I think her sexuality was probably already there.
My concern is why does everyone have to go public with their childhood molestations??? It seems like half of Hollywood was abused as a child.
Being a lesbian is all about not trusting men or being traumitized or put down by men in some way. These people will never admit it, but it's the truth.
I wish I could call a Press Conference.
I am Joe Average. Sixty-three years old, retired, Engineer/Lawyer and no special deeds/accomplishments or negatives.
I would like to announce to the assembled media that I WAS NOT MOLESTED AS A CHILD.
My childhood was fairly normal in an average WHITE family in Sioux City, Iowa.
Now, I would guess there are as many people who care about my story as there are who care about that broad's.
Daaang...made her queer, too.
How can she deny that her problem with men had nothing to do with her reported abuse?
Thats sorta whistling past the graveyard.
Engineer/Lawyer?
What caused you to go from the creative side of the Force to the Dark Side?
Impossible to imagine how insane someone would have to be to even touch that disgusting slob.
