Boycott Star Wars
PABAAH: Patriotic Americans Boycotting Anti-American Hollywood ^

Posted on 05/16/2005 4:09:24 AM PDT by Jon Alvarez

"It is just one of those re-occuring things. I hope this doesn't come true in our country. Maybe the film will awaken people to the situation of how dangerous it is . . . The parallels between what we did in Vietnam and what we are doing now in Iraq are unbelievable." --George "Michael Moore" Lucas

sorry folks...we know this one hurts, but this idiot does not deserve our money. We are at war and to fan the flames of anti-Americanism around the globe is irresponsible and dangerous. George Lucas will never see a dime of my money again.

This reminds me of the Hippie days – when people would set around and “want to get the meaning out of each and every song”.
Sometimes there is no meaning – just entertainment.

Didn't Lucas write this story years ago? If so, what's that have to do with Bush?

You don't want a used set of DVDs! I'll buy at least three new sets. Star Wars has been a part of my life and I can't wait!

I used to have the original three tape set of the first three Star War movies, pre re-editing. Then my wife sold them at a garage sale. Closest we've ever come to divorce.

Uhh, did anyone here see "Attack of the Clones"? Who in their right mind would PAY to see another George Lucas movie? What was the last good movie he directed? When was the last time he provided any wit, drama, or brilliance in his art?

Methinks the vast multitudes are gonna be disappointed yet again. His political musings only offer further proof of his alarming decline in judgement.

I haven't read the entire interview with George Lucas, so maybe I'm not understanding this correctly. I understand that Lucas compared our situation in Iraq with what happened in Viet Nam, but was there more?

I'm really confused here because this seems like a lot of misplaced effort against the guy when what he said was essentially the truth. If I'm missing something here, or not understanding it correctly, please let me know.

actually the story started a long, long time ago; and since it was from a galaxy far, far away it took a while to get to us

That's where Lucas left his brain.

and he only said words...right?

Yes. They're only words and I wouldn't classify them as accurate. Actually it's not a lot like Viet Nam, it's a lot like Iraq. Different war. Now if Lucas had said he didn't support our efforts or our Troops....i'd join you.

Wonder what Lucas means by "what we did in Vietnam"?

A leftist I used to work with was nattering about Vietnam and how G.W. was "AWOL." You know what I told him? At least we know that George Bush wasn't over there chasing down those fleeing, wounded Vietnamese children, shooting them in the back and committing other war crimes like his war hero candidate John Kerry.

The silence was golden.

Unlike most good people, I STILL boycott Toyota for caving-in to Jesse Jackson. I do not forget this stuff about boycotts after a few weeks.

I will not see Lucas spew liberal political commentary.

So George Lucas shows his true colors -- he is the the real Darth Vader -- no wonder he created this character.

Now we know the origin of Darth Vader -- it is a reflection of George Lucas unleashed upon the worth...

I haven't seen a Star Wars film at the theater since "The Return Of The Jedi." Lucas has jumped the shark long before this particular debacle was released. The Bush bashing is a desperate attempt to paper over a crappy film making job.

My life is not all-consumed by politics. It's a fantasy movie, and one I've looked forward to since the original trilogy was announced in 1996 or 1997. I'll go, and I'll enjoy it.

Conservatives need to get a thicker skin. Some people do disagree about Vietnam. That's not un-American. Heck, I disagree with Vietnam, as it was fought. War by politicians. We sent Americans over there without the will to do what was necessary to win. God forbid that Iraq turn into a similar quagmire.

I join you Jon, no way will we in this family, pay a man who dismisses our efforts in Iraq as empire building, demeans the President as a warmonger, and US troops in Nam and Iraq as men who die for nothing.

And all the while Saddam and Sons get a free ride as victims of the US.

Simply amazing, but not out of character for the US public who have been conditioned by Hollywood for 40 years to get their history and opinions from movies, ie the Vietnam war, the Gulf war, and Iraq which is actually the end of the Gulf war.

I'll admit that I really wanted to see this one, but it looks like I'll just have to wait until I watch someone else's copy of the DVD when it comes out. There's no way I'm shelling out money for a movie when the director makes allusions to politics like this.

People ask "How will a boycott affect George Lucas, super-billionaire?" It's simple. When it comes out on the news that sales are a bit down... or even a bit short of what was expected... it will send a STRONG message about these liberal half-assed comments that some bandy about without any thought of those around them.

Heaven forbid if not everyone shares your political beliefs. Ya know. I am going to see the new Star Wars movie. Two, maybe three times. And I will buy it when it comes to DVD.
Boycott this, boycott that. Get a freaking grip. This is still America and we still have the freedom to think and believe as we all see fit. I swear if some of you had your way, you would make it illegal to be a Democrat or even oppose the current administration.
You know what? When it comes to Iraq. I have yet to see any result that is worth 1600+ dead American soldiers and hundreds of billions of dollars. MAybe some day it will happen. But, right now you have a hard time convincing me that this war to stop Saddam's WMD program is anything but a waste of resources.

"It's hard to boycott something that I already had no plan to see."

I agree. Heck, I don't much go to movies anyway. No loss for me.

For those that choose to go: Consider noting a film with a similiar start time, buy tickets for that then go on in and watch Star Wars. Not recommended in the opening busy weeks.
Some FReople recommended this approach for those who wished to see Moore's Farenheit 9-11 - you get to see it without filling the lib's cofffers. ;-)
