information needed about 1st gun purchase

Posted on 05/15/2005 8:37:08 PM PDT by rosy_toes

I am a US citizen & my British husband is a lawful, DOCUMENTED, permanent resident (he has to wait another 17 months before he can become a citizen). We want to buy a handgun, for personal safety in our home. Does anyone know; would the fact that he is not yet a citizen effect us getting a gun?

I have a CRAZY relative (brother), who has sworn to kill me (he attacked me at Christmas, breaking 2 of my fingers, giving me a fat lip & black eye - yet, believe it or not, when Police arrived, I WAS ARRESTED, apparently because I was crying & upset - he DEMANDED the DA take me to trail, but thank God a jury of my peers saw the injustice & aquitted me of all charges).

He was really pissed that I was aquitted & has now (5 months later) gone so far as to say, to a friend, that he could get to me, in my home, 1 late night & strangle me to death, long before the police could arrive to help me (we live in the country & my husband works nights every 2 months - which he knows).

The Judge that presided over my case, was outraged that the DA further victimised me & that I was the real VICTIM. She also knew that [he] is a very serious risk to me, so she asked me after the verdict was read, if I wanted her to issue a restraining order to protect myself, which of course I did/do (this I am told is VERY unusual for a presiding Judge to ask me if I wanted RO) - but I know that this piece of paper will not stop him from killing me, if & when he should decide to.

[His] recent comments (2 weeks ago) about breaking in to my house & strangling me, has now convinced me that I MUST take some steps to protect myself & my family (I have a 1 yr old, 3 yr old & 5 yr old), but I know nothing of guns & I have no idea where to go to find out. I want to be able to trust the sources in which I get the informtion, because I am such a novice.

I love & trust this website & forum, so I thought that my fellow Republicans could help me. I am really scared. He is HUGE (outwieghs me by 250 pounds), he was in the Marines for 2 years in the 80's (although he was asked to leave, or be thrown out for pulling a gun on a Master SGT).

I have ordered pepper spray (for BEAR, because he is the size of a bear) to use for protection, until I am able to get some information about buying a gun and make a purchase.

I live in Washington State - PLEASE HELP ME, I don't know where else to turn.

You weigh, say 110Lbs. That would put him at 360Lbs. He certainly weren't no lean, mean fightin' machine.

I ain't biting.

Yes, very strange indeed. When I read her profile it didn't feel right at all. Rehearsed.

I think all of us felt there was something odd about the post -- but some of us felt, that on that 1% chance it was legitimate, give her a reasonable answer. If she is a troll, no harm done, if she isn't, well, on that 1% chance, we may help out someone.

We didn't lose anything -- it's better to try to help someone, even if they don't deserve it, than to become so cynical, that we don't help out someone who may actually need it.

Not a real analogy, but I just remembered the recent case of a teenager, who repeatedly called 911 and told them, that he was in the trunk of a car, going fast, but 911 laughed it off as a prank, then the police found the guy's dead body the next day, and it was the same guy, because he actualy gave his full name, including spelling to the idiots at 911, who ignored him. If they dispatched police, they might have saved him, since he was in the trunk of his own car, that the hijackers took, and stuffed him in the trunk.

Look into getting a .40 caliber or a Glock .45 caliber. The .40 is a standard police caliber for many departments, as its recoil isn't bad but it's powerful enough to knock somebody down. The .45 is a powerful knock your attacker on his ass round, guaranteed to severely harm if not kill somebody. Go with a good brand name such as Glock or Berretta, stay away from the cheaper guns like Taurus. You'll pay more for the bigger brand names, but it's your life we're talking about.

and the profile has something every DU'er thinks a freeper would have in their profile...

Almost word for word what a DUer would think of a FReeper. Smells funny to me, but will hold for now. The fact that the profile went up in such short order is more than a little suspicious, don't ya know!

Sure not giving much in the way of facts about the arrest. Wa. does have a "somebody is goin to jail" domestic violence law, but it aint generally the female that gets hauled in.

Especially if it had 2 broken fingers, a fat lip and a black eye. That would probly result in an overnight hospital stay for observation and released the next day on OR. I have seen the DA over there go nuts on domestic violence and not once against the female of the species.

There's a heck of a lot of info left out here or "we got ourselves a TROLL"!

I would say the same thing to The Blessed Saint Anne Coulter as I would to a DU'er or anyone else about firearms. Sounds like she has children to protect.

Ann doesn't need novice level advice on firearms.

Mine the perimeter of your property, and get some rocket launchers. You should be fine.

Since May 16, 2005

I am a 34, almost 35 year old mother of 3 - a 5 1/2 year old boy, 3 1/2 year old girl & a 1 year old little boy.

I lived in London, England for 12 1/2 years, with my English husband.

I love my country with all my heart, I love the Military with all my heart & I love George W. Bush, with all my heart.

I think George W. Bush is the best thing to happen to this country in a VERY long time.

I hate the Clintons and find most liberals to be blind, hate-filled, fools & idiots, not all, but most.

I watch FOX news exclusively, they are the only TV news channel I trust.

WORST PROFILE EVER
