information needed about 1st gun purchase

Posted on 05/15/2005 8:37:08 PM PDT by rosy_toes

I am a US citizen & my British husband is a lawful, DOCUMENTED, permanent resident (he has to wait another 17 months before he can become a citizen). We want to buy a handgun, for personal safety in our home. Does anyone know; would the fact that he is not yet a citizen effect us getting a gun?

I have a CRAZY relative (brother), who has sworn to kill me (he attacked me at Christmas, breaking 2 of my fingers, giving me a fat lip & black eye - yet, believe it or not, when Police arrived, I WAS ARRESTED, apparently because I was crying & upset - he DEMANDED the DA take me to trail, but thank God a jury of my peers saw the injustice & aquitted me of all charges).

He was really pissed that I was aquitted & has now (5 months later) gone so far as to say, to a friend, that he could get to me, in my home, 1 late night & strangle me to death, long before the police could arrive to help me (we live in the country & my husband works nights every 2 months - which he knows).

The Judge that presided over my case, was outraged that the DA further victimised me & that I was the real VICTIM. She also knew that [he] is a very serious risk to me, so she asked me after the verdict was read, if I wanted her to issue a restraining order to protect myself, which of course I did/do (this I am told is VERY unusual for a presiding Judge to ask me if I wanted RO) - but I know that this piece of paper will not stop him from killing me, if & when he should decide to.

[His] recent comments (2 weeks ago) about breaking in to my house & strangling me, has now convinced me that I MUST take some steps to protect myself & my family (I have a 1 yr old, 3 yr old & 5 yr old), but I know nothing of guns & I have no idea where to go to find out. I want to be able to trust the sources in which I get the informtion, because I am such a novice.

I love & trust this website & forum, so I thought that my fellow Republicans could help me. I am really scared. He is HUGE (outwieghs me by 250 pounds), he was in the Marines for 2 years in the 80's (although he was asked to leave, or be thrown out for pulling a gun on a Master SGT).

I have ordered pepper spray (for BEAR, because he is the size of a bear) to use for protection, until I am able to get some information about buying a gun and make a purchase.

I live in Washington State - PLEASE HELP ME, I don't know where else to turn.

You mean it sounds like a "Seminar Poster"? That was my first thought...

Wait, does washington state require registration?

Very FEW places required the gun itself to be registered (chicago) just the background and BATF papers the dealer has to do.

There is also http://www.findlaw.com regarding the various state laws.

How come? Not every newbie is a troll, and this person doesn't seem like one.

That's a really strange profile. I've never even thought about filling one out. Rosy seems to be hitting all the points on an essay test.

I don't know...it's a gut feeling. I deeply apologize to the poster if I'm wrong, and I mean that.

But this feels like we're all being baited...for some stupid reason.

For me it's just the idea that they'd come on this forum and ask people they don't even know what they should do in a situation, which if true (and I doubt it is) they should be going to law enforcement.

I can understand the posters who have given advice because most of us are pretty nice people here, but question the motive of the poster.

I didn't post advice cuz trolls don't deserve it. Hell I been here five years and have yet to post a profile page but if I asked someone a question I would damn sure acknowledge any answers given to me.

place an abrams tank outside, have and Apache elicopter hover overhead, keep predator drones on surviellance, get a SEAL team inside house, and that should do the trick

I would say the same thing to The Blessed Saint Anne Coulter as I would to a DU'er or anyone else about firearms. Sounds like she has children to protect.

I was willing to give her a benefit of the doubt for the post, but the profile makes me more suspicious -- it's a little overdoing it.

But I think she is still within that reasonable doubt area.

hmmm.

good first post.

1. "outwieghs me by 250 pounds)"

2. "he DEMANDED the DA take me to trail,"

3. "I have ordered pepper spray (for BEAR, because he is the size of a bear)"

you live in the pacifica northwest.

I think its clear. A gun will NOT help you. from what you posted it is clear that YOUR BROTHER IS A SASQUACH!!! RUN!! RUN AWAY!!! Guns wont stop him.
