New Treatment Gets Rid Of Cellulite Saddlebags

PLANO, Texas -- Women work hard at ridding their bodies of cellulite. They press, step and cycle in an effort to drop the saddlebags.

New Treatment Banishes Cellulite

Still, it's a struggle to trim down the thighs and show legs that are free of cellulite.

"I do eat right," Valerie said. "I exercise, but it's just something I can't get (rid of)."

Valerie, who asked that her last name not be used, turned to a relatively new treatment, called LipoLite, to smooth out the ripples behind her thighs. LipoLite is a combination of two of the latest cellulite-treatment techniques.

One threatment smooths out the accumulated fat deposits. The other shrinks and contours the body. The combination can result in a loss of up to four inches.

"There's no downtime to it," Dr. Fiona Wright, a cosmetic dermatologist, said. "You don't go under the knife."

LipoLite, an eight-week treatment program, combines Velasmooth as its foundation and Mesotherapy as a follow-up technique.

Velasmooth incorporates radio frequency and infrared light treatments to smooth out the skin. Mesotherapy, which is a series of injections, increases circulation and drainage.

"I dropped down a size in jeans and now, instead of a curve, it's more of a straight line, which is wonderful because I have never had that before," Valerie said.

After the eight-week program, Wright said the responsibility of keeping the trim look is up to patients.

"It's gone as much as you keep it away," she said. "I tell everyone, 'If I can get you ahead of the problem, it's up to you to maintain it.' "

LipoLite costs about $4,000, but patients say it's worth the price. Some patients have reported visible results after the second session.

Yes hereditary does count for something. Weird but a lot of aerobic instructors I see are pretty flabby and I don't go to their class (who wants to work out with a fat instructor?) Anyway, if it is hereditary, I suppose a person has a right to do whatever they want. $4000 is a steep price for the remedy though.

They may be skinny but not in shape.

Sorry, but you would be wrong, many of them are in shape (Gym gals). It seems that once the fat starts to deposit itself in that "shape", it is very hard to get rid of.

Light treatments? Injections? That, my dear, is "down time" sprinkled all over the place. Wasted time, meaning appointments, appointments, appointments every week.

Would that there was just a pill. I'd rather take a pill every day all my life than waste effort and time going somewhere for treatments (or wasting time putting on salves - I do that already for derm stuff, so I know what a time-wasting pain that is).

That's what I thought. I've seen some folk remedies recommend coffee grounds.

Theses GUYS don't seem to understand what cellulite IS. It's not just plain ol' "fat" as every1 thinks of that. It may in itself be fat, but it's something that gets "stuck" in certain places. My understanding is that it's like pearls - something gets stuck, and fat builds up behind it. Thus, it's not nice, EVEN fat, but what I call "ripples and rivulets of fat", so you have many shadow lines diagonally along your thighs, arms, whatever.

Some of us are more prone than others. And age has something to do w/it. Things have changed for me since 30, and believe me, I've always been HIGH metabolism (tho inactive and ate anything - the envy of most people). I'm thin but the rivulets are growing and were never there until a certain age (neither were spider veins or light-complected, easy-bruising skin). Oh, and I'm (until very soon) single and never had benefit of a child as an excuse.

Thanks for the info. The classes are held at an indoor pool at the local community college -- there are skylights above the pool, so on sunny days, the water is warm. The rest of the time I would say the temperature is tepid or maybe lukewarm. Usually, it's not all that cold.

But I'm afraid there are times, regardless of water temperature, where I do eat too much to offset the aerobics effect on my weight loss efforts. Oh well.

But I have noticed that with these classes, a lot of the flab has dissipated, including the saddlebags. And I like the fact that doing aerobics in water is a lot easier on my body. I used to take aerobics on dry land, and I hurt for days afterwards.

I just remembered something about grapefruit, the seed extract will help burn fat. It won't help when sitting on the couch though. I jumprope now and do power walking. I was mortified to see cellulite on my legs but then I was pretty inactive. Pretty gross too *LOL*

***

My major problem has been the stomach...the rest of me is fine. If I could get rid of the spare tire, I'd be in business.

And you have hit upon one basic fact: The items which burn the fat only work if you actually do something to burn the fat -- i.e., exercise. That was one of my problems for a long time -- too much sofa sitting and no moving. Bad me.

"how to you combat cellulite between the Landru ears?"

With a treatment known as "lobotomy".

cute, lobotomy. That would hurt. I think he should strap coffee grounds to his forehead.

My sister and I call it "hail damage".

Another thing to consider...I did some research on this awhile back...mesotherapy has only been done in the US for 5 years, is unregulated and largely untested in the dose quantities used in the U.S., which are larger than the doses used in the UK. It is always best to wait at least 10 years after a product such as this is introduced, otherwise you could end up with some nasty side effects that did not show up in initial testing.

FYI, if you're taking some medications, IIRC cholesterol-lowering and/or high blood pressure ones especially, you are supposed to stay away from grapefruit, it interferes with them.
