Looking into Dish Network instead of cable tv. Any advice? Is the dish digital reception better than my cable? Seems to be a better value.

I installed myself too, no big deal. I've had a few MINUTES of down time in the 6 years I've been subscribing. Better than cable? Not even close!
I have had Directv for nearly 3 years. Liked the selection there a little better than Dish. Much happier with satellite than cable though.
I've had it for 5-6 years. Picture is the best I've seen. You need to subscribe up a package to get FOX News.

I understand frustration with cable but don't understand that it will be eliminated by dish/dsl.
Yes, the reception is better. All channels are digital, plus you have the on-screen guide. Unless you need to have a whole lot of TVs hooked up, you'd have to be an idiot to pay $60-70 dollars for extended basic cable when you can get 60 channels for about $30 or 120 for $40.

We've had Dish for years and LOVE it. Only drawback, when storms come or heavy clouds we lose reception for a bit. That sucks, but all in all we are very pleased.
Hap and I have had Dish Network for five years I think. Picture quality is head and shoulders over cable. Down time is negligible. The weather has to be pretty bad to knock out the signal and even then it doesn't stay down long. I'll take it over cable any day.
In most markets, it's cheaper to go satellite with more channels than cable. I left cable 10 years ago and satellite just has more value for the money. Plus, with Dish Network, they tossed in a DVR for free, so I don't even use my VCR anymore. 35-50 hours of recording possible in digital quality. The only time I lose signal here is twice a year when the earth crosses the orbital ecliptic and the sun interfers with the satellite for 5-10 minutes a day. Our satellite is almost on the horizon and it still rocks!
I have had DirecTV for 6 years. Yeah, I actually paid for my system, way back when. Haven't seen a commercial or a halftime show on NFL telecasts since with the NFL Sunday Ticket package.
And FOXNEWS is part of the basic package.
Kids just gave us TIVO for our anniversary (31). AWESOME!
Several years ago I convinced a friend to "do the dish". He later told me that he hadn't realized he'd been watching "fuzz" all those years on cable.
I got married to a lady in December to a lady that had Dish and move to her place, leaving Direct at my old house.
When September rolls around I will have to switch, or the new wife will have to tolerate me being at Hooter's when the Redskins play.
My wife has been looking at doing that. I want to upgrade my equipment to DTS surround and Dish won't do anything for existing customers.
Thank you for all the responses. We had DishNetwork out and they sy there are too many trees on our property to get it to work. They suggested Direct tv also.
