The prosecutor might be crazy to put such a dimbulb on the stand. Crazy like a fox. What juror wouldn't be angered by an accused child molestor who literally bought his own kids? And it proves there is a pattern that Jacko has literally bought his way through life. Get accused of molesting a kid? Buy off the parents.

I don't get angry about a person being rich, in fact I envy their success. But an arrogant fatcat like Jacko or Ted Kennedy who buys their way out of trouble won't get any sympathy from me. Nor will it get much from those jurors I suspect.

To this day, I don't understand why Rita Cosby still has a job at Fox after blowing the Supreme Court decision so badly. She's not only a bad reporter, but her voice is so grating I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard.

Al Gore is in my view just about the strangest person ever to be in the political national spotlight.

I am baffled at how he ever got elected to anything.

In Massachusetts it is easy to understand how our two Senators got in initially, but for me I can't understand how they get to stay in.

Baffles, me, too. I don't understanad how Chaffee gets elected in democrat Rhode Island, unless the democrats just like to have a foolish Republican as a poster child.

Nor do I understand the appeal of Barbara McCulskey, Barbara Boxer, Chuck Schumer, and a host of others.

Explain to me how come that Anthony Weiner person is still in the House! What about Barney Franks?

It really is hard to understand, isn't it?

Bev, hello to you in beautiful Oregon!

Peach, Laura's sub is interviewing Zell...yes, another sub, as Laura's post-op was rougher than she first thought it'd be apparently. I imagine it's day to day, now. Her website says she's waiting for biopsy results, treatment course decisions, and longing to be back on her show.

Damp & chilly out there....

I hired a friend from church to redo an area along our front walk, & today she & her crew have arrived to do the digging & planting!

Always before I've managed to do this sort of project myself, but not this year...

Algore is the victim of his own, and his father's ambitions. He spent his entire life focusing on one goal: The White House. Like Ketchup Boy, his 4 month tour in Vietnam was more about politics than actually serving his country. He was only there for a photo-op. Similarly, he said what he had to say to get elected to the House and then Senate.

Likewise, in his run in 2000, he said and did anything needed to win, which led to his embarrassing antics in the first debate with Dubya, which put Bush, not Gore in the driver's seat. From that night on, Algore was permanently on the defensive. Then came Election Night. The folks in Palm Beach County underestimated the number of votes they had to manufacture to steal the election. Next thing you know, we're all facing the Battle of Florida, which was a national nightmare.

To lose out on the White House because the courts shut down the recount and you had manufactured enough votes to get within 500 or so of winning would be enough to send anybody into a funk. But Algore, having devoted his entire life to one goal, the Presidency, became totally unbalanced.

I can't  explain a lot but I do have a certain sense of a few things local.....

Chaffee inherited his seat from his father.  During the 106th Congress, Senator John Chaffee passed away and his son, Warwick (RI) Mayor Lincoln Chaffee succeeded him in November 1999.

Still Rhode Island is apparently just a suburb of Boston which is evident due to the fact that "Patches" Kennedy holds a Congressional seat there. Patches was considering a run for Chaffee's Senate seat but decided against it just recently. One possible reason: The recent scandal with his mom (Ted's ex) was delicious for a couple of days, but it seems to have been buried lately. Joan Kennedy wants to sell her estate on Cape Cod but her (and Teddy's) kids object and so now she is an incompetent alcoholic who needs to have decisions made for her.

Barney Frank got in because of a decision by Pope JohnPaul2 years ago. Before Massachusetts lost a seat after the 1980 Census, Frank moved into Father Drinan's district won the seat and later defeated Republican Margret Heckler when the 2 districts were pretty much combined.

Father Drinan  (who handed F'n Kerry his first defeat) was ordered to step down from politics. More on Drinan here.
What was Drinan's district (won by Frank after the order from the Vatican) was combined with Heckler's and Frank narrowly defeated her. Frank was a witty guy in the Massachusetts legislature and he got a bit lucky back then when the opportunity arose for a Congressional seat. He had to move into the district which was to become available. He did not come out of the closet for years after getting in the office and until after he was eligible for his Congressional pension.

Around here we refer to the Cambridge/Brookline/Newton Axis. It is one of the most liberal areas in the nation. A lot of famous Libs live in or come from near that area. The Kennedy's were from Brookline, and some of the surrounding communities might surprise you as the homes of some very famous people. Years ago, (probably still true) Newton Massachusetts had one of the highest per capita incomes in the USA. They were on par with Beverly Hills, Greenwich, Connecticut and a few other rather exclusive communities.

I'll never understand the relationship between money and liberalism. Well, I do actually sort of, but I try to keep the conspiracy stuff to myself.

Massachusetts likes to claim it is the Cradle of American Independence.

Well, not quite so fast there yanks!

While the initial battles may have been fought there, and we certainly had good oratory ("Give me liberty or give me death"), it took statesmen and generals from Virginia, the South, to actually create, effect, and preserve the Nation's liberty from Great Britain.

Nice parallel to today.

Lots of oratory coming out of Massachusetts about preserving liberty and the Constitution, blah, blah (presuming you can actually understand Ted Kennedy and Barney Fwank); the action, however, to actually defend and preserve the Constitution and the liberties it provides falls, once again, on the South.

NRO has heard a rumor that the President will have some OBL news tonight.

I stress this is a rumor, and as we all know every time there is a prime-time press conference the rumors start.

The video I saw struck me as odd also....they were carrying shotguns to fend off an airplane?

I now know what panels and valiances and swags are used for.

That's what wives are for, to figure out all of the frufru stuff. ;>)

The new marines that came in were VERY happy that they have a chow-hall in these field conditions. I cooked 250 burgers last night along with everything else. Tonight will be just as busy. But the marines brought two cooks with them, so we'll get a little relief.

Yes, and they were all over the grounds, looking thru the bushes...

Yep. That was it.

Listening to Dingy Harry Reid...Senate floor. I bet he's not going to directly answer Frist's offer, at least for now.

I couldn't read the postmark, so I don't know when you sent it, but the mail is hit-and-miss. Mail from my home station took over 10 days to get here. My new hard disk only took 4. Thanks again for the card. It's good to get mail. ;>)

Before I truly leave, let me say that I've been thinking on the latest rumors concerning the press conference. I will go out on a limb and pronounce they are all correct. OBL IS dead; Zaqwari HAS BEEN captured and Teddy, the swimmer, Kennedy IS RESIGNING from the Senate. A good job all around.
