The Hobbit Hole XXI - ...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

And plant a big d@mn hedge behind it...

Arborvitaes grow VEY quickly, and you may be able to get a good deal on some taller (5' or so) trees in the Fall. That's what we did the first Fall we were in the house. We bought 5 trees that were 5' tall, and got them for about $25 each. They're now almost 20' tall and make a great screen. We planted them 6' from each other's center of trunks and they filled in nicely.

Heh! Steve's a bit wishywashy sometimes, but not me. He burned his arm on a welding torch (which he never had been trained to use) and he got ONE day off because he was on pain meds and couldn't operate the heavy machinery.

During that one day off, he started the proceedings to interview with the city of Tulsa.

I started packing.

I didn't like the job. I didn't like having my parents 5 minutes away from me. I'd grown up in that area and it was like the arm pit of Texas. I wanted OUT!

So, I loaded Matthew in the car and off I went! Steve actually had a letter of resignation in his wallet, just waiting for a call from me. When he got it, he walked to his office and gave it to them!

They weren't very happy but we didn't feel too bad. They had a house that had been almost trashed before that had been completely restored and repainted by us and a they had a sparkling pool. The whole property was in pristine shape after we left...absolutely spotless.

When we moved in, the previous farm manager must have been an absolute slob...the walls were FILTHY, I'm talking mud! Apparently there had been dogs in the house and the carpet was extremely soiled. There was half a dead rat in the pantry (the pantry being as big as the jedi's bedroom is now) and one of the ovens (there were two) had the entire front glass where the controls were FULL of roaches. (Steve took that apart and we got it clean, but we neglected to think about shutting off the breaker and POW! it knocked him down. HA HA!! Live and learn.)

I'm just saying, this house, this hugh absolutely gorgeous house with crystal chandeliers in the bend of a river, had been occupied by no one but trashy low-lifes who nearly destroyed it. We didn't give notice, but we did give a lot of extra time to those guys.

Yeah, I'm thinking something like that. But it'll have to be in the spring when I plant them.

The boys are thrilled, naturally. My folks got it for 'em for finishing school for the year.

Well, dagnabit.... I've been trying to start the lawnmower off and on for an hour now. I pull the dang cord till my back hurts and both arms are nearly falling off, walk around cursing it and repeat.

Anything else I should try? Think the shotgun would fix it?

D'oh!

~glares at g'nad~

It has gas... nice, fresh gas! -- from a brand new plastic gas can we bought that the lawnmower guy said was better than our old metal one! I've got the mower sitting in a nice sunny spot with a view, I've treated it well, had it tuned up two weeks ago, it's oil changed... new plug...

It's being deliberately obstructive.
