CNN Sanitizes Blogger Post Calling for Early Death of Benedict XVI
Inside Politics - CNN | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 04/19/2005 1:39:37 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

A few minutes ago, CNN's Inside Politics aired its daily blog segment, and the focus was naturally on reaction to the election of Benedict XVI.

One of the hostettes cited a blog entry from "a gay man in Tennessee," and his entry could be seen on the screen. The hostette read the part in which the man wrote something to the effect "leave it to the Church to find someone to the right of JPII. Can't wait till he starts bashing women, gays, etc."

But the CNN hostette conveniently failed to read the remainder of the man's post, which astute viewers could see on the screen:

"The good news is that Ratzinger is 78 and should die soon."

I would say that this kind of vile sentiment is at least as newsworthy as this man's musings on Benedict's policy positions. Yet CNN chose to suppress it. Gee, I wonder why?

No, it was from another site -can't remember which. Guess there's a lot of this ugly sentiment floating around.

All priests are against war. It's their M.O. Have you EVER heard of a Pope who came out FOR a war? They jest don't work that way. The problem is that the MSM use it as further "proof" that Bush is bad. "Look! The POPE says the war in Iraq is BAD!!!"

Everyone knows that the only way his papacy would be short is if he died. That is clearly what the poster meant.

I think you probably are correct in the poster's intentions, but I wouldn't be so sure they know how a papacy ends (or much else about Catholicism). At times, their ignorance of the church seems equal to their disdain for it. It truly wouldn't surprise me to see threads about how "progressives" should "impeach" the Pope for violating the Constitution or something.

GLGB is fine [though it sounds vaguely like LGBT!]

I heard the 7 PM CBS radio news and they lead with "the most polarizing cardinal has been chosen as Pope." Nice. Deal with it, libs!

Good point. It's not as if he's a Republican.

That is exactly what the founding fathers intended in the Constitution. Now you see the true colors of the left. They are Godless, freedom hating elitist. They are the greatest danger that free men have.

It wasn't his coming out against the war. It was how he did it, and his fondness for the UN. It was a fairly active campaign in giving interviews to newspapers.

Personally, I don't care because I don't think the Vatican's stance on geopolitical matters is relevant. It is supreme within that church on religious matters and church politics, but I think its opinion on US foreign policy or land reform in Paraguay is outside its area of legitimate comment.

The Vatican obviously disagrees, and I expect more criticism from them even under this pope. It could have been far worse, though. There are plenty of cardinals who advocate the forced redistribution of wealth worldwide. I don't expect Pope Benedict to go that far.

Are you illiterate or do you just play one on the internet? The fact that the "blogger" made reference to "good news" makes it clear that the "blogger" is hoping for the Pope's quick death. The thread title is accurate.

Are you a real sphincter, or . . . oh, never mind, I can tell by your post.

My dear man, the title of the thread makes it seem as though someone is calling for the death of the new Pope. He does no such thing. Do you understand the meaning of the word "call?" Hoping is not a "call" for anything.

By the way, thank you for your service.

Perhaps we are entering an age of true brotherly love - at least among conservatives.

Ironic that we - conservative Jews, Catholics & Protestants - can get along when we are supposed to be the side of intolerance. Meanwhile, I've yet to meet a tolerant leftist.

KPIX-TV (San Francisco) reporter Tony Russomanno, in a live segment more slanted than the city's steepest hills, said something to the effect of "It shouldn't be long before another conclave." Before that statement, he interviewed way-out way-left former Episcopal Bishop John Shelby Spong (showing on-screen his new book, The Sins of Scripture), and said that in the struggle of the 'progressives against the regressives, the regressives won.'

Maybe it would have been more accurate to say that the post hoped for the early death, not "called" for it.

I suppose that if any other religion actually HAD a head guy, and that head guy preached something that was murderous, treacherous, divisive and destructive, I would be tempted to put my 2 cents in...

BUT this man, the Pope, and HIS position as leader of the Catholics all over the world, preaches only the Church's teachings and interprets it's dogma...so if an outsider doesn't like it, he can STHU.

None of his business, unless the Pope says:
Kill all the babies you want
Kill poor ladies that MIGHT be in a vegetative state
Turn your backs on genocide if it suits you
