For over a decade Ive tried to convince people in the pro-life movement that leaving the Republican Party wasnt a good move. The past few days has changed my mind, and I started to write this article when the news broke that Terri died.
Florida has shown us that the best that the GOP has to offer is a losing strategy.
For decades abortion has remained legal due to the same problems which were present in Florida: an arrogant judiciary and an unwilling executive branch.
The call for Jeb to refuse to enforce the illicit orders of Judge Greer went unheeded. As a direct result, Jebs actions sanctioned the starvation of Terri Schiavo. His Pontius Pilate approach to saving her life hasnt fooled the pro-life base.
His public denial that there wasnt anything more he could do was a slap in the face to the pro-life movement and to Terris parents. It is well known that he indeed had these ORDINARY powers as the Governor of the State of Florida.
If this is the strategy the GOP has to reign in the Judiciary, then its time to find another party. It is simply not acceptable that someone could be starved to death in the United States of America with legal sanction.
But where does one go? Many of the alternative parties are too idealistic or too focused on history to reach a broad spectrum of people. And some of the names are quite silly .
In my mind, an ideal third party candidate would appeal to socially conservative Republicans, Regan democrats, and minorities. A coalition party can indeed win
What are your thoughts?
*Rolls eyes*
Oh yeah, well you're just like HITLER. :P
You don't even know what I believe. Quit being such a drama queen.
Taking the Catholic vote from the Democrats won't make them happy and won't benefit them one bit.
The GOP was a third party at one time I believe.
Doesn't matter much what you believe... it was your expression to which I responded. Someone legitimately calls into question the response of the pubbie party and you want to see him zotted. A rather despicable mode of behaviour to me. So that puts you on a par with Mikey S. and his liar, George Felos. Brook no dissent. Kill Terri. Brook no dissent Zot the dissenter. Real sweet, but then that's how you behave, as I recall from other posts you have made...
And as for your drama queen comment, KMA.
Dispicable? Oh, come on. It has been policy around here for a LONG time to frown upon third-party types to go into anti-Republican histronics, and you know it. Quite a few of them end in zots, and I think that this one fits. It's just a buncha hyperbolic nonsense. Jeb Bush is Pilate? Puh-lease.
Start a third party? Come ON, get real. Only kooks and college kids think they can start a third party that will ever get anywhere. Our system just isn't designed for that to happen. That's the reality of it.
Besides, if you are so far gone that you think some guy on the internet who you don't know making fun of you is the same as killing someone, then YOU'RE A KOOK. :P
Yeah, sure...
Like you're going to go running to the Democratic Party, 1st Freedom.
There are two new empty plaques on the Blogosphere Game Room's Trophy wall. One for Judge Greer and the other for Mike Schaivo. I think both their heads will be mounted before July 4th of this year. Taking their esteemed places besides Dan Rather and Eason Jordan.
Jack.
My thoughts are that you probably always voted some marginal third party and want to separate the Republican base because we have a new job to do.
Jeb and the President could be facing impeachment now if they did what you want IMO.
Terri's side all these previous years did a piss poor job over the years about letting the public know of the broken bone and positive tests from doctors that existed.
I thin we saw a court that could be in Contempt of Congress for sure.
I think Cube, China and Iran are going to rub this in our face as a human rights issue when we complain about them.
I think I saw no televangelist in Florida trying to help Terri.
I think We have a job ahead of us and that splitting the Republican vote to some anarchist third party over Christian extremism just won't get anything done except for empower Democrats.
You might as well change your tag-line to "Hail Satan" if you seriously thing the path to help life is to screw Republicans and to enable Democrats by splitting the vote.
Your too much and need to think about the damage you are proposing on this board.
Have a nice night.
A big PS, if Micheal was abusing and mistreating Terri and all these bad things happened in her marriage, then how come her parents didn't visit her enough then to remove her from that bad situation before it all came down to this?
>>My thoughts are that you probably always voted some marginal third party and want to separate the Republican base because we have a new job to do.
??? how in the world did you come up with this?
>>Jeb and the President could be facing impeachment now if they did what you want IMO.
Sure they could have, it's one of the risks, but highly unlikely.
>>I thin we saw a court that could be in Contempt of Congress for sure.
Congress stuck it's proverbial tail between it's legs..
>>I think We have a job ahead of us and that splitting the Republican vote to some anarchist third party over Christian extremism just won't get anything done except for empower Democrats.
We live under judicial tyranny, and this has nothing to do with Christian extremism. THe GOP isn't solving the problem and in fact is part of the problem...
>>Your too much and need to think about the damage you are proposing on this board.
The damage has alread been spearheaded by Jeb..
Are you a registered Republican or a Libertarian, or what?
This went to the Federal courts and the State courts. All you would have done with Jeb is to get him impeached.
Seems Greer ordered to stop all removal unless they came with a judge, so if Jeb went in, people could have clashed and died over this issue. Seems a bad thing to do.
We need to go after the Judiciary and to try and replace the Democrats and Republicans in Florida that did not help with new and better Republicans.
Third parties are the Democrats best enabling friends.
>>Are you a registered Republican or a Libertarian, or what?
Registered Republican.
>>This went to the Federal courts and the State courts. All you would have done with Jeb is to get him impeached.
Not true at all. I doubt he would have been impeached.
>>Seems Greer ordered to stop all removal unless they came with a judge, so if Jeb went in, people could have clashed and died over this issue. Seems a bad thing to do.
Uh, you forgot somebody did die, and it set a very dangerous precident...
>>We need to go after the Judiciary and to try and replace the Democrats and Republicans in Florida that did not help with new and better Republicans.
The republicans failed to pass the bill in the Florida Senate.. Why add more of the existing problem ??
Third parties are the Democrats best enabling friends.
The Republicans has a few of their own that need to to have a great removal effort in the future. I agree they and all the Democrats that voted against Terri need massively funded efforts to remove them for better Republicans.
The 8-9 problem Republicans need to lose in the primary's to different replacement Republicans IMO.
A clash of officers could have killed several.
You have enough blame to go around here.
How come Terri's parents didn't move on this broken bones issue the first year or remove their daughter before all this happened?
Where are all the religious televangelists from TV that want us to give them all this money in exchange for love gifts?
Jeb IMO worked his butt off and the President went as far as he could as well.
The problem is with the courts and neither Jeb or George have the option to play king in some nuclear option. If they did, the fall out could even elect Hillary!
