Short and sweet, be you a conservative republican, democrat, libertarian what have you. Terri is gone, please for God's sake let's stop the internal bickering and get down to business to see that this type of thing doesn't happen again.
Regardless of what side you are on in this debate, we are not going to do Terri, her family, ourselves or our Country any good by slamming and debasing each other.
It's now time to roll up our sleeves and get to work removing the likes of Judge Greer and other Judicial Tyrants from the Judiciary. It's also time to start hammering our elected reps to begin putting the Judiciary back into it's proper place as a co-equal part of government instead of the "Final word" on laws that our representatives have enacted.
God bless Terri's family and God have mercy on the United States.
Where did you get that figure? I believe it but wonder where it comes from.
Lets see what such figures imply if these are given the TS treatment. It costs hundreds of thousands a year to maintain them in these states maybe even a million. If the latter 30 billion if less maybe 15 per year. Should a case go on for 15 years the total may reach as much as 7.5 million to 15 million just for the medical costs not even counting the litigation expenses.
These figures are staggering and clearly unaffordable.
For instance, Judge Greer obstructing an ongoing congressional investigation? That is the first thing that comes to mind...
Bye Bye just means not voting for them next time around not trying to kick them out. That's all. Sorry if it sounded like Rancor!
This ain't over by a long shot; it's just starting. It's going to get a whole helluva lot worse as we rip the lib-dem judge filth from their imperial benches.
What I am pointing out is that it does us no good to pretend that there is a consensus on FR about the issues here. Reading any of the Schiavo threads demonstrates that in a matter of minutes.
Florida Statute 765.309 [prevents mercy killing and assisted suicide] - void in my Court.
Florida Statute 744.3215 [requires that incapacitated people cannot be deprived of food and water]] - void in my Court.
Florida Statute 765.404 [which says that clear and convincing evidence of the ward's intent for medical treatment must be established] ] - void in my Court.
So much for ending the rancor...
Count me on your team! Very good post!
The problem with "ending the rancor" is, in my opinion, that this case, more than any other in recent times, has had the unusual effect of causing people to inadvertantly reveal their souls.
Some of us are repulsed by what we see, in what we thought was a party of like minds when it came to the sanctity of life. Some of us are repulsed on humanitarian grounds only, the callous disregard for an innocent, disabled woman. Others (and some of the same ones no doubt) by the chilling sense that this is how the Germans began, one small step at a time, what eventually became known as the Holocaust.
Life, for me, is everything, from conception right on through. A government that doesn't protect those who most need protection is not worth a whole heck of a lot. A government who condemns other countries for torture, yet "under the rule of law" (as it now stands) permits this atrocity, needs to examine its own soul, too. Or lack of one.
You need to calm down. Take a walk. Talk to your dog.
There is one name that should make Chuck Hagel shake and it is "Tom Osborne".
Did you ever stop to consider the possibility that Terri did not want to be maintained in that state? And, IF that was the case, would you not agree that the circus would be an astounding trampling of her wishes?
That's what it all comes down to - if she wanted the cessation of life-sustaining care, is there anything wrong with anything the government did in this case?
I don't know if she wanted it any more than you do. But we have procedures in place to make those determinations, and they were applied in this case with more effort, more second-guessing, more evidence than any similar case in history.

Ok I understand what you are saying. You are right, there is no consensus, but that doesn't mean we can't try to work towards reigning in a runaway judiciary that has proven in cases outside of Terri's that it thinks it rules the roost.
