Gov. Bush Washes Hands of Schiavo Matter

by Scott Ott

(2005-03-27) -- In a symbolic move, designed to show Terri Schiavo's supporters that he has done all he can do to spare her life, Gov. Jeb Bush today publicly used a disposable moist towlette to "wash his hands of the matter."

"I find nothing deserving death in this woman, but I'm only the supreme executive of Florida," the governor told a crowded news conference. "Perhaps if our constitution called for a balance of powers to protect our citizens against judicial abuse, I could do something. But as it stands, she is in the hands of the judges. It's their job to determine what is truth. If she dies, it's not my fault."

In related news, Gov. Bush continued his Easter tradition of pardoning a Florida citizen chosen by a statewide poll of judges. This year's candidates for pardon were Mrs. Schiavo and burglar who had killed a homeowner during a break-in.

The burglar won in a landslide.

Sometimes satire is painful.

This is one of those times.

I agree, the Pontius Pilate comparison sadly fits.

Did you see on the news report how defensive Jeb Bush is now? He is talking "poor me, poor me, poor me," not "poor Terri, Terri, Terri." He wants people to know that his hands were tied.

If Jeb were in trouble for defying the court, his brother could have pardoned him. It would have been the most moral "crime" ever.

Bush might want to look into the history of Pilate's career after he left Jerusalem. I believe his political future was severly shortened. And he used real water.

People should remember Bush signed Terri's Law I.

People should also remember he is still Gov of FL and if you want to keep this from EVER happening again you will need a governor who will sign Terri's Law II and III.

Does anyone think Lawton Child's son is going to do that? Bill Nelson? ANY FL Democrat?

Defeat suck, but we are still in the good fight.

Judgenfuhrer Greer: "My latest black-robed Mullah Fatwah
gives every Judge in Florida the right of 'First Night'. That should get me the Mullahs we need."

I truly hate to say this...because so many of us are thinking it...

But if Terry dies on Jeb's watch, his career will take a turn for the worse. He has the opportunity to do something really good, and kick the left smack in the teeth. But, if he doesn't capitalize on this, and she dies, he'll be washed up afterwards. It might take a little time to come around, but this is what will happen.

I hate watching it happen.

No, GWB's pardon power does not extend to the court of George W. Greer! Presidents cannot pardon in county and state matters.

Here's a lighthearted study:

These things are being tallied by numbers now, it seems.

I am looking for the Miami, FL information. Anyone have it?

and just exactly what have you done yourself? Before you and others throw any more stones, please enlighten us on your own actions.

Every day feeding tubes are disconnected. Perhaps you could tell what you will do to stop those(if you are threat, the law will deal with you appropriately)

Very true. Jeb Bush does have the power to pardon himself. If his "crime" were so egregious, though, he could be impeached and removed by the Florida legislature. Gov. Bush must determine for himself if acting righteously is more important than worldly condemnation.

well ... his last name is Bush (i.e. backing down under pressure runs in the family).

Bush41: Read My Lips

John Ellis Bush: Schiavo press conference basically asking for the judge to instruct him to do nothing.

and GW biggest pressure issue ... SOCIAL SECURITY REFORM ...
we'll see whether he caves in and drops it ... or goes along with more tax increases (via new taxes, raising the FICA, or raising the caps) to keep the pyramid scheme on it's feeding tube.

Hopefully, I'm wrong (considering I was involved in helping him get re-elected).

"In about 2 1/2 hours it will be Monday in Florida. I just pray that Terri holds on long enough to get past today before she dies. It would be mocking Jesus if she were to die on the day He was resurrected. That's what MS and his followers want."

They really wanted her dead and I really don't know why.
