Letter to President Bush about Terri Schiavo
Self | 27 Mar 05 | LoneRangerMassachsuetts

March 26, 2005

President George W. Bush White House Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. President, It now appears that Terri Schiavo has no champions. She will soon die. This is a win for the advocates of euthanasia and a loss for America. When we give up trying as a society we begin dying. The Europeans are a good example. Just two years ago the French couldn’t be bothered to halt their vacations to take care of their elderly parents who died by the tens of thousands in a heat wave. All they care about are their vacations, short work weeks, and pensions.

The Terri Schiavo saga is more than just a right to die cause for the terminally ill. When someone commits suicide, we feel saddened for this self-inflicted death but we do not fear for ourselves and loved ones. When we let the advocates of euthanasia carry on, they will inevitably seek greater numbers of the weak among us. Nursing homes will turn into hospices for which the likes of George Felos and Judge Greer can now only dream. Many of us will be at the mercy of state sanctioned mercy killing. Medicine will turn to eugenics rather than advancing cures and quality of life. This is the demon that is breaking loose in Florida and Oregon.

The most incredible sidebar to the Schiavo story is the stated goal of Michael Schiavo, George Felos, and Judge Greer to burn the material evidence. Terri will be cremated within one hour of her death. With all the firsthand accusations leveled at Michael Schiavo and George Felos by care workers who had direct contact with Terri, the indifference by Florida law enforcement officials in openly seeking the truth and settling public outrage is crushing. I am equally appalled that the medical establishment does not seek an autopsy to scientifically establish Terri’s diagnosis. Do they not care if the public sees the medical community as credible? With all the second and third opinions Americans seek, one would think they should. A truly impartial post mortem evaluation is necessary to keep our trust.

Putting the Terry Schiavo saga into context, it seems foolish to wage a war on the other side of the world while we decay within. If the Bushes kick the can of euthanasia down the road, not only will the Bush legacy be undistinguished, but also America will have made a great stride toward its demise as a great nation. When Lincoln was confronted with the end of the Union, he acted.

Sincerely,

Polly, please try to understand. Even if Jeb went in there and got her, the courts would give her right back to him.

That's why Jeb is out of options. The spousal relationship is by law, the recognized next of kin. The courts will continue to uphold this relationship in this case.

You say you are going to the Constitution party. When Hillary gets in office, she will make sure that killing the infirm is legal and made even easier. She will make sure that late term and partial birth abortions are easier to get.

If you care so much about life, you need to think long and hard about your decision. Because if that happens you may well have blood on your hands for helping her get in there.

This seems really unfair. What do you do if the judge is biased?

If he went in there and got her, at least there may be time for Communion. I don't see how anyone can not be upset at this obvious breach of the supreme law of the land. As a Catholic, himself, I'd think he'd move heaven and earth to do that.

I hope a pissant probate judge never denies you your religious liberty, personally. Then again, this may be precedent setting in that respect, too.

The only real respect for many in America today is reserved for our military..Our institutions have failed us and have looked the other way in the Schiavo situation regardless of the abuse of the Schindler family which we know is true because we have observed it on television the past few days. States Rights is the excuse for the unwillingness to take responsiblility for this terrible atrocity. Our Godless, uneducated media, has used fake polls of the American people to quell dissent of this, for they know that many are influenced by what they see on T.V. about complicated medical situations many know nothing about and have never seen. I believe the manipulation of words turned into insulting lies have prevailed here..Have we Americans become such sheep that we are not going to hold our politician's feet to the fire on this? If they are going to hold office in Washington but they are not going to take the responsibility for upholding the individual rights of our Constitution so that they do not allow judicial tyranny, then, is their purpose simply self-aggrandizement and power..One helpless woman is suffering an unbelieveable death in FL at the hands of our government and the lawyer who helped to bring it about comes out and informs his sympathetic media that her death is a beautiful peaceful thing and that she is not suffering while her family, who truly love and care for her describle a large, swollen tongue, bleeding from her mouth and eyes, a flaking off of her skin and a concentration camp appearance. Brain Washing is taking place here when ideas and concepts are being declared which fly in the face of anyone's conscious ability to think and reason. When Mr. Filos came out and made his ridiculous declaration about Terri's peace and contentment in this horrible death process, every American should have then disbelieved everything else he has ever said. Add to that the fact that Michael Schiavo is going to destroy the evidence of his crime..Terri's body..within an hour after she dies..Who can stand this kind of knowledge?..I am having real trouble with it. I do not just grieve for Terri and her family..I grieve for all of us and what we have obviously lost from our own humanity. We have a very clear historical example of this kind of thing..Hitler's Third Reich..Watch the history channel..Read. Inform yourself..You will seen very familiar patterns.

"A monstrous evil has been unleashed in our land. We let a county probate judge order the starvation death of a non terminal incapacitated woman in the face of evidence that this was not her wish. The same judge stared down a "governor of a state, who was too afraid to use his Constitutional given power to protect inalienable rights of a citizen.

The men buried at Concord and Lexington turn away in disgust."

I fail to see what is hateful in my letter. I didn't know that the Free Republic is a blog.

It isn't. I'm referring to the emotional nonsense sent in by people like you - social conservatives and pro-lifers who are throwing a temper tantrum because they didn't get the right outcome. Alot of these blogs are on our side and do great work, and letters like you only serve to alientate our allies:

"Some of you have questioned whether I am truly Christian because of my position on the Terri Schiavo case. This speaks volumes because it is not I or my ideological allies who are casting people into the outer darkness because they disagree. The speed at which some of you have reached to condemn me - in the most literal way, since as a not-true-Christian I am obviously Hellbound - reveals much more about your spiritual condition than mine."

http://www.donaldsensing.com/2005/03/pastoring-families-of-hopelessly-ill.html

"Likewise, I've gotten some email from people who are actually angry at me for having the temerity to disagree with Hugh Hewitt (an anger that Hugh certainly doesn't share). We've seen what the you're-the-enemy-if-you-don't-agree-with-me-on-everything approach has done for the left. It's disappointing to see people on the right imitating it."

http://www.instapundit.com/

"Genn says that in the Terri Schiavo furor, some on the right are acting like the left, flaming people like Rev. Donald Sensing because they express contrary opinions. I can vouch that Glenn’s right; I’ve received a few very nasty emails, and been called “Judas” here at LGF, simply for stating that I was uncomfortable with judging the people involved in Terri’s case, and criticizing the junk science and unfounded speculation that has been all too prevalent."

"Glenn also points out that the “agree on everything or you’re evil” approach is exactly what has gotten the Democrat Party into such trouble; and I would add to that: 1) the failure to fact check, and 2) the willingness to believe in questionable sources with unshakable certainty."

As for your link to powerlineblog, I would suggest you spend more time reading history.

Huh? To what point re this issue?

Talking about legal process is about as entertaining as looking at Buddhist monks look at their bellybuttons while chanting. When people FEEL they are getting screwed, they break into a rampage like lopping off heads and stringing up their enemies. They usually reach that point after the rules driven bureaucrats are so onerous that revolt is more attractive than peace with injustice. We have moved one step closer to such a state. Justice is a thing one feels. To babble on solely about legal process is idiocy.

You make my point. Terri's parents were outawyered on this. But lets not talk about those boring legal issues as we insist Jeb send in the tanks (and I doubt the Constitution Party will welcome that line of reasoning).

I've seen several posts from social conservative "christians" and pro-lifers that want to quit playing because of this. You're like spoiled brats who blame the coaching staff because the other team is cheating. Jeb did everything he could do without going outside the law. From what I'v seen, he did try to intervene with force but it was called off at the last minute when the police around the courts insisted they would resist and carry out Florida State's legal ruling.

But go ahead and quit, we've always carried your burdens, and taken political hits from moderates for doing so, but it occurs to me that we might be better off without you. And quite a few of us are tired of covering for you political naivite in public circles. Have your tantrum, throw rocks at George and Jeb, quit the party. The rest of us will stay here and continue to fight for Christianity and Morals and Justice.

I don't know. The Florida judiary seems to be all screwy anyway. Remember, this is a Florida Supreme Court that had both of its rulings voided by SCOTUS in 2000 Bush V Gore. Voiding a ruling is SCOTUS's way of saying "put down the crack pipe".

Its a seperation of powers issue. What do you do when the Judiciary openly flouts/ignores action by the Legislature? I don't know what recourse there is, but quiting, sitting on the sidelines and letting Hillary appoint more of the same for the next 8 years is NOT the answer.

Isn't it funny how most of the scumbags who pop in from DUh are illiterate?

No surpise that the DUmmies are attracted to this thread, like moth to flame: Moonbats Religious extremists want to dump Kerry Bush, and threaten to immigrate to Canda because we lost the Ohio Electoral Vote Terry Schiavo case.

Probrably the only time in their life the DUmmies will have an afinity towards Social Conservatives. ;)

The men buried at Concord and Lexington turn away in disgust.

Nonsense. Those men would spin in thier graves if a Governor sent in troops to overturn a judicial ruling he disagreed with.

We have lost one battle. People who would cowardly quit the field have no business invoking the honor of our ancestors.

The old saying goes, "nobody likes a loser." Bush is losing the euthanasia fight along with illegal immigration, and paying extortion money to the educational, aids, and pharmaceutical rackets. He is scoring points only for work abroad while the socialists at home strengthen their positions in the courts and government funded service industries. With your kind of help we will all be damned. Like Regan said, He didn't leave the Democrat Party, it left him. Bush is taking the Republican Party leftward. It left me last year when Bush signed a bill to fund obscene amounts of money to sedate school children with drugs.

Bush is taking the Republican Party leftward

Uh-huh. Bush the RINO. LOL. Bush is fighting the battles he has a chance to win - Reform. Reform the tax code, reform the UN, reform social security, reform the Middle East. Alot on his plate. I agree he's wrong on immigration, but I'm not forsaking him.

Speaking of which, while we're lambasting our allies who are helpless to affect Terri's case, anyone have any blame to pass around to GOD? Where is He? Why hasn't He done anything to save Terri? Its in His power to do so, yet He refuses. Will the Religous Right bolt from God as they threaten to bolt from the conservative party?

You're correct that the scumbags are celebrating the murder-in-progress of Terri Schiavo and they will no doubt whoop for joy when the murder is completed because they will believe that they finally "won" something. That's what this is about to them - - they couldn't care less about Terri Schiavo and her family.

However, on the flip side, I really don't believe that all the decent folks who are appalled at the corruption of the liberal courts and the puniness of Jeb Bush and others in this case will feel that they "lost" anything to the scumbags.

I believe they will be genuinely upset simply because an innocent woman was murdered by order of the courts and the people who were supposed to stand up to the corrupt courts and protect her failed. That is, I don't think most people around here really give a rat's behind what the scumbags at DU think. I know I sure don't.

Regards,
LH
