It does look like a mustang with a ram nose on it.

It's a mushram.

Too bad the Charger isn't slated for the 6.1 liter HEMI. They are going to put one into a Jeep...415 horses! I would think that the enhanced engine would be the big selling point for the Charger, not the name.

I saw a website that said it would have a 6.1 425hp engine...but that might be old info

I think they would add the engine to the lineup as a special edition, at least.

From Dodge:

"The 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T will feature a five-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick® and a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine that offers an estimated 350 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque -- ten more horses than the previous 5.7-liter HEMI -- for even more power in this modern rear-wheel-drive muscle car."

But still they do have the capability to throw in the 6.1 liter.

They did add it, as an SRT8.

"The all-new 2006 Dodge Charger SRT8 builds on the Dodge formula. It starts with a 425-horsepower 6.1-liter HEMI® engine and continues with a powerful dose of renowned Street and Racing Technology performance for a tremendous performance-per-dollar value story."

That car does not impress me at all, however, these babies still do:

Power. Precision. Passion. Together they define the essence of the M3 Coupe. Its 3.2-liter, six-cylinder engine produces 333 horsepower, enough to launch from 0 to 60 mph in a staggering 4.8 seconds*. Its six-speed manual transmission or optional Sequential Manual Gearbox (SMG) and road-gripping M Variable Differential lock make any trip a soul-stirring experience. Just 4.8 seconds behind the wheel of the M3 Coupe is all it takes. The M3 Coupe. You’ll never look back.

More than 15 years after the M6 last graced these shores, the engineers from BMW M GmbH have created a truly awe inspiring Sports Coupe; the all-new M6.

Based on the new 6 Series, the new M6 shares its drivetrain with the recently introduced M5. The new V-10 produces 500 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. Engineered to rev with a redline of 8,250, this new engine offers 100 horsepower per liter of displacement. Pure race-car territory.

From rest, 60 miles per hour is reached in well under five seconds. The rush of acceleration never lets up until the electronically limited top speed of 155 miles per hour. The top speed may be limited, but with the speedometer reaching all the way to 205 mph, the mind conjures intriguing possibilities. To complement its performance potential, the M6 is equipped with generously sized high-performance brakes with cross-drilled compound brake discs.

The 6 Series incorporates impressive lightweight technology with extensive use of aluminum, as well as thermoplastics and sheet-molded compound. But with the addition of a carbon-fiber roof, the M6 takes weight-saving engineering to a new level.

The all-new BMW M6 combines the comfort and amenities one expects of a luxury coupe with the performance capability and driving experience that can be provided by few cars of any type. There is still no confirmed date for the launch of the M6 in the U.S., but typically M cars come to market two years after the launch of the core model, the 645Ci in this case, which launched in the Spring of 2004.

No doubt BMW brings power and beauty to the table! The Charger lines do not impress me as well. I'm a MOPAR muscle car fan, so I'm biased. Both the M6 (507 bhp) and the HEMI variants (425 bhp) can move!

The M3 is a cool little car, but there are just too many around. The M5 would be cool, because it isn't so common.

I saw a 55yr old or so lady driving an E55 last week... I was thinking what a waste!

but who knows. maybe she is a speed demon.

I've lost so much respect for American auto manufacturers its sad anymore. I got a '02 GMC Sierra 1500 but once Toyota/Mazda/(maybe Honda now) gets a decent full sized pickup out on the market I'll steer towards them and say bye to GM.
I don't know much about the original Hemi's but it seems like todays Hemi's are such an embarrassment to what they once were. I'm not sure if Dodge is using a different engine in their models or if they are still using the same engines they have and just put a HEMI sticker on the side.

Well its quite a bit different here in Montana though. BMW's are still pretty rare but it seems like they are making a jump in numbers. The M line is not seen at all hardly. In the North-West of the state though, the X5's are quite numerous, but my mom's is pretty nice. :)

Re: Hemi's are such an embarrassment

Why? 345 hp ain't bad! And the ability to drop cylinders while cruising to conserve fuel is a good development. They also the redesign makes the engine more technician (grease monkey) friendly.

They aren't just using the old late 60's early 70's engines. The concept came up to redesign the aging 5.9ltr, Dodge talked with old timers who engineered the original and tweaked it up a notch. It wasn't a gimmick by the ad guys. They didn't know until a litter over a year before production.

The diesels are pretty rare in America though, BMW.com doesn't even list them in the American lineup. :(

Yeah, I'd like to see them sold here. But, I'm apparently in the minority. :-/
