Senator Tom Daschle, Robert F. Kennedy Symposium, UMKC
UMKC Student Government Association ^ | March 2005 | UMKC Student Government Association

The Robert F. Kennedy Symposium (RFK) is a traditional event held annually at UMKC that is sponsored by Student Government Association (SGA) The Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Symposium is presented as an intellectual and educational experience for the University of Missouri-Kansas City students, faculty, staff, and the general Kansas City community. A symposium entails an exploration of issues and dialogue regarding a specific topic that is carried out over an extended period of time. We hope it will focus the public eye on the issues related to bioethics and stem cell research and be viewed in a rational, thoughtful manner. Advocacy of the various perspectives is not envisioned; rather the goal is discussion and ultimately an understanding of the topic and its impact on American society. It is through such programs that all can engage in sustained exploration of critical social issues from multiple disciplines and together build a community of learners.

Monday, April 11 at 7:00 p.m. Senator Tom Daschle will be speaking in Pierson Auditorium on the theme of Bioethics and Stem Cell Research in Pierson Auditorium. This event is free for all UMKC students. There is a $5 ticket fee for faculty and staff and a $10 fee for community members. Tickets will be available April 1 in the Student Life Office in the University Center room G6.

I don't think there is a Senator named Daschle -- any more.

The title of this symposium, you ask?

WHY THEY HATE US:

A prescription for how the Democratic Party can become appealing to the electorate through more effective deception.

As a graduate of UMKC, I am not surprised yet another liberal is brought into speak there. Its a good city university where a good portion of the student body is non-traditional; married, night-schoolers, already working, have kids, etc. So be default, there are a good number of Republicans at the school, but just not involved in college activities because they are married, night-schoolers, already working, have kids, etc.

But somehow, recent past speakers have been Micheal Moore, Sarah Weddington, Eric Foner, and now Tom Daschle. I think even that fraud Rigoberta Menchu spoke there. I can't even recall one Republican speaking there. Hell, even Kansas just over the state line has some Republicans.

Daschle is on the college speaking circuit. Where else would he find an audience except among aged hippie professors and kids they've been able to co-opt?
