How much longer are we going to keep "hoping" a judge does the right thing in a timely manner?
Are we waiting through the night? Or we waiting through tomorrow? Are we waiting, waiting, waiting while Terri dehydrates to death?
The time has come to call, email and fax encouragement to President Bush to write an executive order protecting Terri immediately and getting her into a hospital. In a hospice they cannot adequately take care of her. The judge can take his time making decisions without it being on Terri's watch.
BEGIN the CALLS!! Jam the switchboards!! Pass this to everyone you know.
Hundreds of posts are calling for the impeachment of Greer, Whittemore and every other judge who has found for the Michael Schiavo, for essentially not finding in Terri's favor. So if President George W. Bush fails to actor perhaps not actin Terri's interest, and he does not send in the troops, do we add Bush's name to that list of people to impeach in this matter?
I ask this not to be quarrelsome, but because that is exactly the argument that will be used by those on the left. We need to face the issue first.
I want Terri's life to continue. I would like nothing more than to see her husband lose his rights are her guardian, but is this the step we want to take to make this happen?
A president can't exceed his constitutional authority with an executive order.
First, Melos. Yes, the president CAN write an executive order or he can get the Attorney General involved. http://www.heritage.org/Research/LegalIssues/LM2.cfm
MFM asked: "So if President George W. Bush fails to actor perhaps not actin Terri's interest, and he does not send in the troops, do we add Bush's name to that list of people to impeach in this matter?"
Let me ask you a question: When does being a conservative mean that we ignore what is right just to keep a man in office? If we Americans are THAT desperate, then we no longer live in America. We live in a police state of tyranny.
I realize we all agonized during the 8 years Clinton was in office, but pretending Bush is not hurting our country by failing to act in this matter - is just plain wrong.
We need to hold our leaders accountable whether they be Democrat or Republican.
You still have not answered my question.
Calpernia said: "I didn't say he shouldn't. I said if he did the focus should be Greer and Co. Not specifically Terri."
Go back and read how executive orders have been written in the past and you will see the president has a great deal of leeway in these matters. The fact is this: the Constitution protects every person's right to life, liberty and happiness and in this case this right is being cruelly taken from a young woman. The president has the right to step in and intervene through executive order.
Why do you think the judiciary has more power than the Constitution grants, yet feel the president has so little?
That is the true misunderstanding here. The 3 branches are supposed to balance one another, not take over as the judiciary is doing here. If the president steps in with executive order he won't be taking over - he'll be intervening so the witness (deemed such by Congressional Subpoena) can remain alive and so the "powers that be" can haggle through the details later.
You asked: "What are youand in all fairness, everyone else on Free Republic willing to do if President Bush does NOT issue an executive order?"
Let's just put it this way: This incident is helping people wake up to the tyranny confronting us if this president doesn't take constitutional action. And that can lead to a number of different actions by the people - for one thing, some on another thread are already considering civil disobedience by going down to Florida and making their feelings known more openly.
You have a problem with that, Mr. Military Family Man?
Or do you think a police state is a good thing for America?
You can answer my question this time.
Walking up to the front door, as the woman did yesterday, with a bottle of water in hand, was a tremendous at of civil disobedience. So again, I am asking you, if George W. Bush does not react the way you want him to reactif George W. Bush does not send it the troops will you call for his impeachment? Again you still have not answered that question: yes or not will suffice
You don't deserve an answer for you're speaking in gross ignorance of the Constitution.
Sorry.
>>>The fact is this: the Constitution protects every person's right to life, liberty and happiness and in this case this right is being cruelly taken from a young woman. The president has the right to step in and intervene through executive order.
Hence my point. Terri is not the first or only one being subjected to Greer and Cos schemes.
She is the only one getting the media attention (thank GOD! for the media attention).
This is not an isolated incident. Because it is NOT, my point is, if Bush was going to step in, he needs to step in to stop this entire patient brokering business.
Not just Terri. That is not fair to all the other victims and sets a precident for his use of Executive powers.
So it boils down to everyone who disagrees with you is wrong. I understand
No, it boils down to anyone who is ignorant of government history and the Constitution - being wrong.

Do your homework.
My question is what happens if he DOES NOT ACT? What are you willing to do at that point? People called for the impeachment of judges Greer and Whittemore because they ruled the way they ruled. Others have called for the impeachment of the judges in California and in Massachusetts who ruled in favor of gay marriages. Fine I don't agree with those issues either.
Since you are claiming to be the better legal scholar, I'll put it to you, exactly what law, or court ruling would you have the President enforce? Terri's right to Due Process? That was ruled upon twice now (I've read both rulings twice). Granted, the results were not what I nor hundreds and thousands of others would have liked. So if the President signs an Executive Order, what would he enforce? What law?
The person I have fault with is the attorney for the Schindlers who had the opportunity to show why they might preveil in a new case, and failed each time.
For the sake of peace and quite, why not email Rush and suggest he propose this option? I have.
I've emailed several talk show hosts including Rush and yes, I see your point - but I'm zeroing in on what we can do to help this woman survive this terror right now and we can all discuss what to do about Michael Schiavo, Judge Greer and all the rest later.
In my view time is too short to be sidetracking right now.
