Thanks for posting this off another thread that some of us might never see! Ignore the naysayers! What an incredible story and one that should make everyone think that Terri deserves the right at rehab which is being denied by her husband.

I remember reading about WWI soldiers who had substantial parts of their head and brains blown away, yet survived, the theory being a split second transference of memory and motor skills to an "unused" part of the remaining brain.

I guess some people have RAID backup.

In the past few days I've heard more stories like this. People who were considered finished by the medical community who are alive, kicking and functioning well. I don't know what's in Terri's future but she should be given and should have been given) the chance to find out. Medicine has come a long way in the 13 years that Michael has denied her attention.

Remember when they thought that Down's Syndrome babies were worthless? Or that Cerebral Palsy was caused by a lack of oxygen at birth and was the fault of the delivering doctor? How long ago was it that children died of measles, whopping cough, scarlet fever? Just because one, or several doctors say something is so doesn't mean it is. Here's a perfect example.

Thank you for posting this. I am another that didn't see it when it was posted before. Fascinating and inspiring, IMO. In one of my former forays to the DUmp, I encountered a disabled person and conversed with her. She had been institutionalized as a very young child by her parents at the insistence of the MD's who examined her and called her "hopeless" due to a brain injury at birth. She's now in her late 40's, in diapers, doesn't speak, in a wheelchair when somebody puts her there, has never been to "school" and it was the computer that freed her to tell people that she's "in there." She pokes the keys with a stick in her mouth, is self-taught and one of the most literate posters on DU. (Yeah, I know. That isn't saying much.)
