I dearly wish my sense of smell would return. You can't imagine an odorless world....:-\
No pun intended, but does it also make your world tasteless? I always wonder if you get any real taste frm food, since you can not smell it. As I said, seriously curious, not being a smart bottom.

My doctors told me that I can't taste anything.
My neurologist pitched a fit and refused to see me further when I repeatedly proved him wrong.
I can tell if something is "off" several days before someone else can.
As an example, I once handed hubby some store-bought chicken salad that I thought tasted really "funny" and asked him to smell it.
He said it was perfectly fine.
Against my better judgment, I believed his nose rather than my tongue and ate some.
I was sick for 2 days.
On the 3rd day, the tub of "smells fine chicken salad" unceremoniously exploded in the fridge....:))
All I can figure is that I *can* smell but some connection in my head is "broken" and my brain isn't consciously aware of the smells, themselves.
If that's not the answer, then I'm just being contrary....again....;)
Two other head injury people I know can neither smell nor taste.
Go figure.

I've never heard of that.
Googled it...fascinating...thanks...:)

Sorry for the late reply. I did not log in on Saturday. Better late than never, and I was busy today. Thanks for your description and links.

Polybius, the radiologist, gave his description of that single CT scan section in comment# 135.

I am so glad, to finally stumble upon the observations, such as yours.
Because so many news reports state that she has "no cortex and thus no personality because she can't be cognitive" or words to that effect.
I became interested in your line of work, back when I had a serious back injury, almost exactly ten years ago.
I demanded an MRI, and it showed the state of my disc's, yet it also shows a narrowing in the area of my upper back/neck, where the flow of fluid is not quite 100%, to say the least.
That intrigued me, because I have this silly little problem of, when I am inverted, such as trying to do a handstand, I will immediately pass out.
Anyway, those events have stuck with me, and then helped us a lot, because my mom has "a touch of hydrocephalus" caused by, wouldn't you know it, the same thing that I have, but of course, she is old, and it has finally caught up with her.
My insistance again, that an MRI might show a mechanical reason for why she was getting a few signs of hydrocephalus, trumped the "theories" proposed by the doctors she had seen to date; her doctors were inclined toward chemical reasons forcing the change in her.
I was thinking, basic hydraulics.
Having seen the kinds of pictures --- hydrocephalus --- I was thinking almost exactly, what you have written.
Thank you.

I've been looking at this CAT scan for almost an hour. I was a Radiographer for 35 years and there are some problems with this image. The image is reversed (you should be able to read all of the print). The print is very blurred (the labeling on a CAT scan is always very sharp and easily readable). There is nothing that indicates exactly who this person is (every image produced would have a patient's name on it as well as the name of the facility that produced it and the date of its acquisition). I don't claim to be a diagnostician but this could be an elderly person with normal atrophy or someone who has suffered a severe insult to the brain. Without the rest of the images, with proper identification on them, and the EEG you could never tell which it is.
