Yes, it is a topic we have discussed previously but it was so much fun last time I thought we could have another go at it.
How does one raise a well-mannered child? Are we well mannered adults, giving our children a good example from which to learn? What are some instances of atrocious manners that you have encountered lately?
Coffee's on!

I can recall being a College-Know-It-All-Hippie back in the '60's, snubbing Mrs. Dr. Smith's favorite crab dip receipe on the grounds that "I'll never be able to afford crabmeat." She looked at me wisely and replied "Life goes on and things change" (or words to that effect). This morning, and I am not making this up, my good wife said to me, "I'll be taking the Lincoln down to Phoenix dear. Will you remember to return these bonds to the safe?" Pace Mrs. Dr. Smith, you were right and I was wrong. I heartily agree on the topic of not blowing one's nose at the dinner table, especially if one does not use a handkerchief. It is in these small lessons that the foundations of true civility are laid. Another thought on manners: if you wish to avoid going to Baptist Hell, never use the Flag as bunting. (Parents, do not accept any contradiction on this point.)

Sorry to hear about your doggie!
Some people treat rudeness as their right. Some people are so egocentric they do not see how their behavior affects others, or don't care. They are too busy pushing, shoving, and yelling their way through life. I recently had a woman at the grocery store push her cart in front of mine WHILE I WAS IN LINE FOR THE CHECKOUT. Then she just shot me a dirty look, like "go ahead and say something" I had the baby and figured she was crazy, so I just switched lines.
Easter pictures!

GOOD TOPIC Lady!
Here's my pet peeve: (Well, ok, I have about a thousand of them, so this is just one.)
When church lets out and the vestibule is crowded with lots of people, several of them older and dependant on canes and walker to get around, I can't STAND it when people let thier kids run pell mell thru the crowd. Grrrrr! Ok - putting my horns away! LOL!

I can't stand seeing kids running around in just about ANY public place! Drives me nuts. If it is a toy store or the toy aisle at Meijers, that's one thing. I was at Barnes and Noble last weekend and three little boys ran right into me--knocked me into a bookshelf, books all over--then they raced away. Not a parent in sight. A clerk was gracious enough to help me right myself and he picked up all the books--in some stores, that can be unusual.
Gotta go, I'm taking the pooch to the vet. Doesn't look like arthritis. Just damn.

disgusting. Another one is seeing adults blow their nose and look at their bugger . kids are bad enough but some adults have poor table manners in Restaurants

I have one thing that I think gets over-looked.
I taught my children to call adults Mr. or Mrs. (last name).
I found that children who used Mr. or Mrs. were better behaved than the children who called all adults by their first names.
I have made exceptions with my daughter who has speech problems, and I would let her call some people by their first names if it was easier.
My son, however, is required to call most people Mr. or Mrs.
We do have some exceptions. We have a single friend of my husbands that my kids adore, and they call him Uncle Bill because he is like an uncle to them. They also call their real aunts/uncles by their first names.

I like the name. It's a good republican name!

My 10 year old son has gotten bad about running around in public places, and then he gets his sisters involved.
Of course, mom is around to stop the behavior. However, I have to keep a constant eye on them.
My 10 year old has gotten worse this year with being hyper, and I'm hoping he grows out of it soon.
I will say in his defense. He has been complaining about kids cussing at school. The Christian school he went to was bad in 2nd grade, and now the public school has gotten bad in 5th grade. I think I'm mentioning it to the principal.
That's another manners thing. I see kids cussing in front of their parents, and the parents do nothing except maybe cuss right back at them.

Sigh. My friend in Alaska feeds salmon to the dogs, too.

I hate that, too. I make a point of announcing loudly (but as if to my own children) "You know we don't run indoors; that's very thoughtless and inappropriate behavior!"

Would this be a situation where someone showed a bad example that their child followed?
5-Year-Old Arrested For Candy Outburst At School
POSTED: 12:52 pm EST March 18, 2005
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Florida school officials are apologizing for the arrest of a 5-year-old, whose tantrum landed her in the back of a police cruiser.
Officials said the girl threw books and boxes, kicked a teacher in the shins, smashed a candy dish, hit an assistant principal in the stomach and drew on the walls. She was upset when a teacher took away jelly beans she was counting in a math exercise at Fairmount Park Elementary School.
Minutes later, she was under arrest for battery. The 40-pound girl's hands were bound with plasic ties and her ankles in handcuffs.
A school superintendent said campus police should have been called. He said school officials "never want to have 5-year-old children arrested."
No charges were filed and the girl went home with her mother, who said her daughter will not return. In her words, "They set my baby up."
