The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Haryadoo'nn?

Wouldn't it look stupid if we all wrote the way we talk?

Evenin' XGI. I'm doing just fine.

I dunno if it looks stupid, but I still understood it! :-P

Yah... I made a huge effort to actually not move any frap, except the most crucial frap. The rest got dumped. The new digs are all nice and spiffy. :-)

Now, if I can just get a little discipline about throwing stuff out and not just stacking it up. Most of it is just junk.

I'm actually really good about keeping things organized at work. It's my desk here at home that's slowly being buried under paper.

They gave me my review yesterday and I got a wee bit of an increase. The best part was that I actually got a 4.51 out of 5.00 - which is stellar in this company.

Methinks they suspect I'm unhappy.

Thanks. I still miss my old job and I guess I always will, but as long as I have a household to support, I'll suck it up and make the best of this one.

Evening OT - Miss Kitty's sunroom construction commenced, whoohoo.

Glad you got a grill, we're not all that picky.

Now for a varmint? hmm. well, we'll see what we can find on the way over, there usually is something 'available' near the Triangle, we'll keep our eyes peeled.

Evening Rosie - off traveling again, my word, you've become quite the adventurous young hobbit lass these past several months.

Have a great time at the mini-moot tomorrow.

So anyway, I've just been out to dinner with some of my friends and been confronted yet again with something I don't like, which is that now and then when we go out one of them will insist on picking up the check. It makes me feel so bad because I never know ahead of time they're planning to do that, so like tonight I ordered a drink with dinner. And then I can never return the favor because I'm just not in that position financially, and they know it. Which is probably why they do it in the first place.

And on the other hand they can afford to - the ones who make a habit of this still recieve significant support from their folks - and they're the ones who pick the restaurant, so... am I just worked up over nothing? Am I lacking in knowledge of some piece of adult etiquette here?

Evenin', or very early good morning. I got home around 10:00 p.m. and struggled for about an hour to get Comcast back online.

For a funeral, things went well. I blogged a bit about it.

Josh says "thank you" to all for the knife. He said it came in quite handy. In God's providential timing he got home from Iraq two weeks ago. He saw my uncle (his grandfather) on Friday before he passed on Sunday.

I gave my other cousin's oldest a ride back to Richmond where his mom lives. Gary Lee has Down's Syndrome. He wasn't "supposed" to make it past his 2nd birthday. He'll be 40 in June. Much of the conversation on the way was repetitive. At the same time it was delightful.

I realized yesterday on the drive there that you folks have been with me through five family funerals. Thank you.

Corin wouldn't have gotten very far without his FRiends.

My cousin's wife is a flight attendant for USAir. She flies to Europe now.

She was able to be in Rome for the funeral. She said the spirit was incredible.
