The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I'm down.

There's a Beetle salvage yard, hugh from what I understand, about an hour away from here. Too far to go in my rickety old van. But I've been dying to go for a while now.

So I was looking at carrentals.com and found a really cheap weekend rate! I thought "Great! I'll rent a car for a day and we can go down to the salvage yard!" I mean, after all...Steve had to work the Household Pollution Collection Event this weekend...what could he have to do NEXT weekend? So I reserved the car and emailed Steve, saying "Look at this great rate! We can go to Bristow!"

He wrote me back...can't go.

Blue Thumb Creek Clean-up.

Sigh.

It's a volunteer thing, kinda where the city "expects" you to volunteer. They don't pay you, but they give you "comp time", which I have yet to see.

I know it's probably silly, but I'm so disappointed. I mean, I hardly ever see him during the week, I look forward to weekends so much, then last weekend the city makes him work all weekend (which I don't complain too much because it is overtime) but then they make him work again this weekend!

I know, I sound like a whiner. And I'm probably being irrational. I guess I probably shouldn't have gotten my hopes up without asking him first. But you gotta move fast with those cheap rates...they change hourly.

Well, hopefully he'll take his comp time soon and take you down there.

Yeah, I got high hopes. /sarcasm

Last Friday, he took that time off to come home early 'cause he knew he'd be working all weekend (8am to 4pm). Still, he got home at 2pm and had to have a shower and a pot of coffee...then the drive was way up north of here and he got lost...we got out to the salvage yards at 4:30pm and they close at 5pm on Fridays.

Sigh.

I know I sound awful...we usually do just fine on the weekends as you know. But I've never been a fan of this Blue Thumb bidness. But he's obligated to do it. That's part of what bothers me about it...you shouldn't be obligated to do something that's volunteer. But I also think someone who is involved in his education is involved in this too...so that has something to do with it too.

And it wouldn't be so bad and I wouldn't be resentful, I think, if he came home in the evening during the week. But he doesn't...not usually till Friday.

All these years...gosh, 5 years? Maybe more! He's been going to school and I don't complain much. It's almost over...bear with me, I'll quit complaining here in a sec! LOL

As long as I can get away with just giving some of my old mathoms that are collecting dust here!

If you can get 'em to me by Saturday, Jr. and I will sell them at the yard sale...

Yep, it gets REAL hard when you can see the end in sight. Makes for irritability.
Been there, done that, hon, when SSQ was VEY close to finishing up his dissertation for his PhD. Thankfully I didn't have to TYPE the dang thing! He hired one of the Statistics Dept. secretaries to do it. She had a typewriter with all the special math fonts necessary for it and everything. It was great for her cause she made a good bit of extra money from all the Masters and Doctoral students who needed papers typed.

It's coming, and soon. All you can do at this point is pray for patience and keep busy doing stuff that doesn't require him to be with you. Since it's nice, now, you and the boys could spend some time planting a garden! You already have the beds set up right? So it's more a matter of getting them cleaned and planted. The less you dwell on how close the end is, the easier it will be on all of you!

LOL!! You really do know exactly what I'm feeling!!

You know how you're riding in a slow slow car and you're trying to speed it up and your feet are pushing on the floorboard?

THAT is how I feel!

ASG, we're going to have to do something with the garden, something major, (if we don't move). The chickens just tear it up, now that they've figured out how to fly over the little fences we built around them. (Thank Rosabelle and Isabelle for that, they're flyers). Roy is the only one who can't fly over even a 3' fence...she's too fat! LOL

We're either going to have to really enclose the chickens better or enclose the garden better and it seems like too daunting a task right now to even think about either way.

But we'll figure out something. I want to go on a bus ride sometime, with the boys, just for fun. We may do that today (after school).

But on the other hand, we like seeing you about in the evenings! We miss you when you're off gallivanting for bug parts.

Anyway, the light at the end of the tunnel is most certainly not a train. Think how soon he'll be done!

Yep...it looks like he's actually going through the graduation ceremony on the 9th...4 weeks from now. He won't actually be done with his thesis...but almost. He's already turned in a rough draft. So he won't get the "sheepskin" till that's done.

I just emailed my husband, told him the manuals came in. He said "So I guess you're heading for the bathtub?"

LOL That's where I do all my serious reading...all my catalogs are completely warped.

No, I think I'll take these out on the porch!
