Heh... me too. Born in AZ, and have driven past the GC several times. Stupid, that.
Just saw the pics! Looks like a great trip - hope y'all had fun! I so love the north country.
Grand Canyon? Water rafting?
What the hell...I'm in!
Just be sure I can sit in the middle and that I have a HUGH lifevest.
Hope Luke gets to feelin' better soon. Iced chamomile tea would do the trick if he was inclined to drink it.
Prayers up for Nana.
*grinning*
I can tell they're molting because the tank smells like chemicals.
Rats! I had to get a recap from my co-workers.
Won't say more because Jen asked for no spoilers. :-D
The Grand Canyon trip is my dream for Entmoot 2008. I'm vey series.
I was there just after college and vowed to go back and hike it. That was 25 years and 100 lbs. ago...
So I haven't given up my dream. I've just redecorated it.
It may have been a "Night Gallery" but I remember it from the "Twightlight Zone" (the memory is in black and white). ;-)
Now you're caught up. ;-)
As for the Grand Canyon...I grew up less than a mile from the Appalachian Trail. I've been on...about a mile of it. ;-)
Hope Nana's ok... sorry about the relatives. Like they say, we can't pick our relatives. But we do pick our friends. Which is why I can't quite figure why you hang out here ;-)
I'm series about the Grand Canyon trip too, I just don't see why we should wait so long. Why not do it next year, seeing as we don't have plans yet?
It's a spoilable zone, I snuck home early this afternoon and, knowing I'd be doing this crap all evening, watched.
Whoa! Best ending in ages! I was actually verbally cheering Brian and Gregg on. They gained a lot of class points in my eyes this time. And they're sort of cute. I'm rootin' for them.
What? You're not worried about the dreaded Colorado Rivershark?
:-)
OK, ok... just kidding... there's almost no sharks at all in the river.
1) It's vey spendy.
2) You have to book those things way in advance.
3) It's vey spendy.
4) I won't be 50 next year.
5) Next year is our family trip to Disney. Otherwise we lose the "window" to have both boys there at the same time.
6) It's vey spendy.
I'll do some research. We might be able to pull this off sooner than 2008. But not next year for me.
[quizzical look] Uh... what they got goin' on there... a meth lab or sumpthin?
The trail was pretty much a rockslide all the way to the bottom - the slalom (sp??) was marked with rock carins. - which suggests to me that someone gets paid to set those things up..... - By the time we got to the bottom we were all having crazy muscle spasm in our legs from the lack of trail. Crazy! But what an experience.
The second day was hiking along the river, but because it is a canyon, with side canyons, and side canyons to the side canyons, traveling from point a to point b is not a simple matter. In one of these side canyons - where it was so narrow you could almost jump over to the trail on the other side - that we discovered echos! And proceeded in geeky/silly college style to dramatically recite "Green Eggs and Ham" and listen to the echos.
Well, going from point a to point b seemed simple enough on the map, but with the side canyons, the elevation gains, and the fact we were down there during the winter solstice - we didn't make it to our goal the second nite and ended up camping in the middle of the trail ('cuz no one wanted to sleep inside the mouth of an abandonded uranium mine...).
Then coming up, we scaled a cliff via a tightly switchbacking trail. It was really disorienting to look down and see the trail coiled up beneath you. If you fell, you'd hit the trail at least a dozen times before falling into the 'abyss'. This turned out to be a real concern 'cuz we ran into hard packed ice on the trail. Some smarty-pants had gone before us and was using crampons. So we almost died a dozen times going up that. Ack.
It was such an awesome trip!
Oh! College days!
Hiya!
Well, I'm glad that the quarreling couple is gone. They were annoying.
Although not as annoying as the West Hollywood Gay Couple. *rolls eyes*
Hardy har har. It is to laugh. :P
You did see those hundreds of sharks swimming north right off my coast, didn't you? Deerfield Beach is shut down until they clear out.
Of course, I don't know what my runnin' around budget will be in '08.
If ShootMoot were more than a long day's drive, or involved staying at a resort, I wouldn't be able to swing that either.
Maybe it was a Great Western Jackelope...
