The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Drive by posting....

No worries, msdrby! The petting zoo with e.coli was somewhere else. :-)

But I ALWAYS make sure my kids and I wash our hands after coming into contact with any of those animals for just that reason!

At least once I get settled!

I gotta say, I'm dreading the week after the wedding a bit. Everyone else will go on back to their lives, and I'll suddenly be jobless in a strange city without family around. There's no avoiding the fact that I'm likely to be VEY homesick that week.

By June, though, I think everything will be hunky-dory. 'Specially if I have a decent job AND can go to Shootmoot...

A. It's not going to be that strange, you've got a native guide.
B. I ain't family but you're not going to be alone.
C. You'll be too busy cooking me dinner to be homesick. And I've got about 200 hours of anime for you to watch while you're job-hunting.

I can do some wandering around, too. Check out what's in walking distance, practice using the bus system.

I'll still likely be thinking "what have I DONE?" a few times a day, though. Just goes with the territory!

Hope the job comes fast, though a few weeks of exploring wouldn't be bad.

Look how many things lined up perfectly for you so far! You really think God's going to get you out here and then let you starve?

since she's coming back here, we could even check something out from the library.

That's a GREAT idea, Rosie! Is your library a member of a big system? You could order an audio book from another library that yours doesn't have. It may have time to get to yours before you leave.

We listened to FoTR on one trip to FL, then RoTK on the next one. You'd have time to listen to the entire trilogy!! You could check out a few and Margaret could get a few more, if they had a limit on how many you could get.

Could you still check something out of the college library, letting Margaret return it?

The only thing that worries me a bit is the chance of damage on a long trip like this.

We've had trouble several times with audio tapes. One tape was so screwed up, it just wouldn't play, and another, TTT, the tape messed up during the battle at Helm's Deep!! ARGH! We had a Jeeves and Wooster tape that would reverse itself and play the opposite side when it reached a certain point, and we couldn't make it play for love or money!

In all these cases, the library just took them back without any problem, because we let them know that the problem was there when we received the tapes. So go ahead and get them, knowing you're likely not to have difficulty from the library on their return, if you make it clear that the problem was there when you received the tape. I doubt there is anything that you or Margaret could do to the tapes to mess them up.
