The Hobbit Hole XX - And take the hidden paths that run...
The Freeper Hobbit Hole ^

Posted on 03/05/2005 11:51:13 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

And take the hidden paths that run...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Oh, by the way...a TON of boxes headed your way. Eek! I just hope the post office doesn't decide to just give ya a note telling you to pick 'em up...

I was feeling really depressed about the cost until I got home and engaged brother had just gotten TWO boxes he'd shipped himself (he's moving back here), for about half the cost of my TEN boxes. Shipped UPS ground. I guess USPS is cheaper...

In any case, that means I should be OK with fitting things comfortably in the van now, even the bulky things like blankets and pillows.

Okay, I fully acknowledge being technologically an idjit.

Is there a way to configure the laptop to print to our regular printer thru the wireless connection? Is there somewhere I can go to get instructions to do that?

In other news, it's rainin' here...so much for yard work this afternoon.

If they do tell me to pick it up - which they won't - no big deal, the post office is a mile away. I'll let you know when they arrive, probably next Monday.

Do you have the printer hooked up to, say, a desktop computer that's on the network? If you do, it's easy to make it a shared network printer. If you just want to have the printer on the network, you have to buy equipment for that and I'm not sure how much it is.

I also ordered myself a present from a pen place. A book and some ink. I bad...

So...that'll be coming soon, too. Also the rent check.

I may be on the road when the boxes get there!

Yes, it's hooked up to our main PC that has the cable and the wireless unit.

Ok, so what you do is make sure the printer is a shared network printer - on the desktop, check the settings under printers and faxes - and then on the laptop, go to printers and faxes and use the "add a printer" wizard.

Okay, when I'm on the laptop it says it can't find the available printer. I've tried several options of naming it. It finds the network.

Try browsing to it - there should be a browse option, and then look for the computer it's attatched to.

Heh...maybe the thought of purple ink ahead will help me through the toughest parts of the journey?

One can only hope...

I tried that. But it won't recognize the name of the printer. I've tried every option of how it's listed on the desktop.

Probably the day before...fortunately or unfortunately. We may have to discuss key options.

The deal is that we'd be likely coming in around noon on Thursday ...unless we get seriesly delayed or make seriesly better time than I'm gauging for.

If we do more per day than I'm thinking, we MIGHT be able to get there Wednesday evening, but I don't believe that'll happen.
