Help Needed

Posted on 03/03/2005 3:28:16 PM PST by maineman

Thank you in advance! A truck was parked near my home taking pictures. I was able to get the licence plate number, does anyone know if that number can be checked on line?

It depends on your state. I would think your local Dept of Motor Vehicles could provide the info in any event.

Give the police the info. Maybe it just a real estate appraiser? Is someone putting their house up for sale around you?

I just typed in a search for Missouri License Plates. I can have a plate identified for $39 by a private company. Seems like you could call your state DMV. They might tell you for nothing.

Could have been a real estate appraiser. I do it all the time for mortgage companies. The streets are public property but it would be nice if the guy had a magnetic sign on his car with a phone number stating such.

You provide too little information.

State?
City or area?
What did they seem to be photographing?
Did the vehicle have any 'business' markings or signs?

etc...

Did you buy your house within the last year or two?

Doubt they were doing anything illegal.

Do You have any reason to think that You, personally, are an item of interest? If not, don't panic, someone else is the target.

A truck was parked near my home taking pictures.

The old picture-taking truck trick. Oldest one in the book. Excuse me, I have to answer my shoe.

It could be an appraiser. Did you buy the house or refinance the mortgage in the past year? Sometimes appraisers do reviews of appraisals and they need to take photos.

FWIW, publicdata.com carries databases for vehicle plates for the following:

DMV - License Plate
Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Wisconsin.

It's fee based, and requires registration. I have an account, Freepmail me if I can help.

Here in Colorado, for $3 at the DMV, we can get that information from a plate.

I'll bet you're a movie star or maybe Steven King. The folks in Beverly Hills have gotten used to it.

Do you live on the rim of the Grand Canyon, or across from the Statue of Liberty? That could explain the picture-taking.
