Schadenfreude
N/A

Posted on 03/03/2005 10:23:50 AM PST by Right Wing It

I was unaware up until this point that there was a German word meaning "happiness at the misfortune of others" The Word is "SCHADENFREUDE". What makes it ironic is that it is the only national language in the world to have a word for such a subject. Who else thinks there should be an American word for this?

This is a useless thread. The English language is,in fact, a polyglot language, which rather than abjures the use of words from other languages (as the French do),it embraces them. Oh,and FYI...English is a mostly Germanic language anyway. :-)

Narn Opera is never as bad as Vorlon poetry. It's the difference between purple prose and icky sickening make you throw up before ten minutes have gone by writing.

The more I learn about the world the more I find it to be a very strange place.

I'm surprised I remembered! I don't otherwise have a clue where I was or what I was doing back then. I do have a vague recollection of a woman leaving. I don't think I've seen her since, so maybe she's not coming back.

Could you put some text on this picture? "Go away, ugly troll, or my penguin will poop on you!" I think it would fit in the upper left quadrant, where the smudge from the scanner surface shows.

Ha! You bet. This one is gonna be fun! :^D

Well people look at me and say,
Aw-Raw, Aw-Raw, Is That Your Hat?

(late to the party again - all the good ones were taken)

(Has this thread been beaten to a pulp, and are we now experiencing a barely concealed glee at the agony of the poster, which cannot be possibly conveyed by a single English word?)

Thread has not been horribly beaten into a pulpy mass until it has been beaten with a rubber chicken.
That has not happened yet.
So there's still time.
