"Million Dollar Dud" wins 4 out of 6 top awards? While Mel Gibson, who was shunned, is laughing all the way to the bank with a re-release of "The Passion" this month.

That year, in which "Titanic" hauled in 11 Oscars, marked the ceremony's best showing since 1983.

I bet a great deal of that 1983 audience tuned in that year to see if E.T., at that time the most popular film of all time, would win...it lost to Gandhi.

I watched the beginning of the show just to hear Rock's opening monologue. Three minutes in and he praised F9/11 as a "great film" (applause from the libs), then in the next breath bashed Bush (louder applause and laughter). And they wonder why their ratings continue to fall?

If "The Passion" had been up for more awards I would have watched.

I thought Drudge was touting some headline that the Oscar ratings were the "Best Since the Year 2000!"

What happened to that?

I suppose it was all spin from one of his Hollywood buddies.

Yes, the lament about ratings being down because there were no "blockbuster" ($100m+) nominees is laughable.

"The Passion" was THE blockbuster and the judges ignored it, so "The Passion"'s audience ignored the Oscars and awaits its re-release.

Seems fair and balanced to me.

Interesting. On radio, earlier today, ABC News said that the ratings were the highest in 5 years (they said due to Chris Rock).

Ratings were up in the large cities, but down big time in the more rural areas. Which was to be expected, the Oscars this year seemed to have written off red-staters. We only watched the first few minutes, where in the opening movie clips they showed a lady biting a sausage that was strategically positioned over the private parts of a naked guy in the background. Then when Chris Rock started bashing Bush, we turned the channel. I bet a whole lot of people did so, too. Would love to see the incremental viewership numbers.

Hmmm ... here's a thought ...

Kid Rock intended to sink the Oscars.

Think about it ... his distaste for the entire affair and he's the one chosen to MC?

Why?

I'll not post "DETERIORATA" again, but it comes to mind.

Wait a minute. Just heard ABC news on the AM dial and they were spouting off on how good the ratings were and they attribute that to Chris Co....er..Rock.

And we all know the MSM would not mislead us (/sarcasm)

The failure of the Oscars wasn't Rock's fault. Sure, he was unfunny and insulted the majority of Americans, but the ratings would have stunk with any other host. America -- or at least the Heartland -- is just sick of Hollywood in general.

Freedom-loving peoples are reshaping the world while terrorists are trying to lop off their heads or blow them up. Meanwhile, Hollywood plays dress up, mock Bush and middle America, then congratulate each other for "courage."

In a world where reality is more amazing than fiction, we just don't find show business all that interesting anymore.

Fox did a smart thing by counter programming with "Independence Day". It's just about 180 out from watching a bunch of self important metros sucking up to each other.

It was a snoozer. I wouldn't blame Chris Rock as he was clearly confused by having to string together complete sentences without the 'f' word in them.

I was telling my Black Liberal Democrat Girlfriend last night that Chris Rock was going to bomb. I told her that Chris Rock has an audience that supports him because he is Chris Rock. He swears a blue streak, is loud and his act is mostly, "Black people do this and White people do that!"
People who watch the Oscars are not watchimg because of Chris Rock. Sure, he drew in his own fans, but drove away about everybody else.

When Jeff Foxworthy can take the stage and say, "White People do this and Black People do that." And howls for his head are not heard, then I will laugh at the racist crap that is spewed by Chris Rock.

C'mon folks! What the heck are you beating on Chris Rock for??? He was nothing but a low life, liberal, left-wing, traitor/treason Democrat piece of vermin before the Academy Awards, and he is exactly that after the Academy Awards. The real culprit here is ABC and the people who allowed this moron to host the show. It is not Chris Rock that should be whipped, but rather producer Gil Cates, or whatever his name is (who cares what his name is), that should be taken to the wood shed!!! Shame on ABC!!! But, what else did you expect from the MSM and Hollywood after they just blatently and unjustly ignored the best picture and director of the year (The Passion of the Christ and Mel Gibson). I'll wait for the final viewer number estimates before commenting further. Reason! I think the MSM has tried to pull a "John Kerry wins exit poll" here, trying to boost the number of viewers, but when the true numbers are known this Academy Awards failed miserably!!!

I could care less about the Oscars, the anti-American snobs and Hollyweird.

On the other hand, I would stay up all night just to get a glimpse of Salma Hayek.

So money is the only way to judge a good film? Is Citizen Kane a poor film because it was a box office failure? I have not seen The Passion, but is it not primarily a 2 hour beating of Jim Caveziel? I can understand how that might not be rewarded as the best film of the year.

After seeing South Park's The Passion of the Jew and then rewatching some of Mel Gibson's films I think Trey Parker and Matt Stone have him pegged. He is a Sado-Masochist
