(It's not a bad program, either, in spite of the price)
AVG is what you want. While you're at it, make sure you've deployed Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. The trifecta for cheap bastards like me.

AVG is for the rock-bottom price of Free-Ninety-Nine.
Sorry, didn't have http in the first link,
Don't forget SpywareBlaster 3.2

One thing you'll want to do once you have it installed is to use msconfig and look at the programs that run at startup. Remove the program call AVGCC. Don't let it run at startup. All this does is put run the Control Center and put the little 4 color icon in your System Tray. What it will also do is cause some occasional problems with startup and shutdown of your PC as well as system freeze ups....if you are running Win98, Win 98se or Win ME.
I eliminated it from my startup and my PC has been running a lot smoother.
Wow. I gotta go to bed.

Browser Wars, take two various FR links | 12-22-04 | The Heavy Equipment Guy http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1306815/posts ...and let your compiler of links drop out of Lurk & Link mode for comment and advice: Ditch IE. Honest to God, almost anything else will give you fewer problems. Try and compare- use IE, then run Ad-Aware and Spybot Search & Destroy... then try another browser and repeat. You will be stunned at the garbage IE attracts. Keep your OS updated & patched. Run a hardware firewall-- with today's LAN's, it's easy. You need a hardware firewall. Use a software firewall, too-- if you don't, you'll never know how many times your PC is trying to "phone home" and send your info across the web. |
Dropping out of Lurkin' & Linkin' Mode...
Avast! by Alwil found and healed viruses no other free or purchased software found. Try the online scans as well-- they sometimes catch stuff ( like Byte_Verify ) that others miss.
Check my FR homepage. You'll find links to everything you need - antivirus, antispyware, firewalls, etc. All freeware/open source.
I uninstalled the AVG and still unable to connect??????
